Job Description
Accountant
The Accountant is responsible for accounting maintenance and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, methods, and DCI standards. This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the preparation of and accounting for monthly billing to customers, maintaining fixed asset ledger and reconciling sales tax returns.
Salary: $45,000 - $52,000 Depending on Experience.
Responsibilities
Billing
- Ensure accuracy between the customer contract and bill
- Audit licenses and maintenance billed to actual usage
- Track new services and deactivations to ensure proper billing
- Monitor pass-through fees billed to customers
- Prepare invoices monthly in accurate and timely manner
- Work directly with various DCI employees / departments to obtain information for billing (as necessary)
- Maintain and update DCI’s billing and ERP systems
- Oversee new banks entered into DCI's billing system
- Verify customer information and reviews special billing considerations for new customers
- Work with customer and customer relationship manager to explain DCI bills
- Understand and ensure sales tax is calculated correctly for each unique combination of customer and item
Fixed Assets
- Maintains fixed asset system.
- Creates reports for quarterly tax estimates.
- Oversees disposals of fixed assets through accounting and fixed asset system.
- Processes required reports for year-end audit and tax return preparation.
- Provides equipment schedules to insurance carrier annually.
- Preparation of various schedules for annual budget process
Tax Accounting
- Oversees preparation, filing, and billing of property tax records for physical sites.
- Prepares and files state consumer use tax returns and reports for all states and local entities.
- Monitor and reconcile sales tax via Avalara.
- Prepare and file various annual reports, state franchise tax and unclaimed property reports for states in which DCI operates.
- Coordinate with Billing team to ensure appropriate taxation on customer invoices via Avalara.
Other
- Prepares monthly reconciliations of all related balance sheet accounts.
- Coordinate with Networking Department to ensure proper billing and vendor payment of installed Data Lines.
- Provides back-up support to other Finance staff as able.
- Ensures that personal work area, desk, and other shared departmental work areas are maintained in a neat and organized manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience coupled with a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS
- Thorough understanding and familiarity with accounting methods and principles.
- Experience with an ERP (NetSuite) a plus.
- Proficiency in composing business letters, mailings, creating and maintaining spreadsheets.
- Accurate and efficient 10-key and data-entry skills.
- Advanced PC operation skills, word-processing, and spreadsheet software proficiency, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
- Strong planning, coordination, time management, and organization skills.
- Effective and appropriate verbal, face-to-face and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal relating skills.
