Post Baccalaureate Fellow- Data Science

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Applied Mathematics and Computational Research Division has an opening for a Data Science Post Baccalaureate Fellow to join an interdisciplinary team to work in geospatial analysis and computational healthcare.

The combined expertise and facilities of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs offer a unique opportunity to accelerate the development of predictive models of various health outcomes using vast amounts of heterogeneous data. You will work collaboratively with scientists at the Lab to become familiar with research concepts and procedures that contribute to the development of world-class research in healthcare, machine learning and data science with a visible impact on the community.

What You Will Do:

• Learn from and collaborate with research personnel at LBNL.
• Become familiar with concepts and procedures including high performance computing, machine learning methods, geospatial analysis, epidemiological studies, Geographic Information System (GIS).
• Prepare reports, manuscripts and other documentation as needed for publication and/or for presentation at seminars and scientific conferences.

What is Required:

• Strong knowledge of Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and Github.
• Strong knowledge of data science and machine learning methods.
• Strong knowledge of high-performance computing.
• Strong knowledge of geospatial analysis and GIS.
• Ability to think clearly and work in a focused and analytical manner.
• Exceptional communication skills in written and oral forms.

Notes:

• This is a full time, 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
• This full salary range of this position is between $19.50 to $31.22 per hour and is expected to pay between a targeted range of $22.00 to $28.29 per hour depending upon candidates' full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.
• This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
• This position has the option of working remotely. Work must be performed within the United States.
