- Assists with a comprehensive music program which includes concert choirs, show choirs, women’s choir, chamber choir and other ensembles that may be formed.
- Trained and experienced in vocal music programming. Experience selecting pedagogically sound and engaging music to meet the ability of the ensemble(s) to ensure success.
- Ability to effectively teach one-on-one and small group lessons with an emphasis on strong vocal technique.
- Skill and experience with Show Choir preferred. Assists with all aspects of Show Choir, including working with instruments, planning and executing rehearsals, and traveling to competitions. Will be lead teacher for Prep Show Choir.
- Devote outside time for choral events, including All-State rehearsals and auditions, OPUS Auditions, solo-ensemble contest, large group contest, evening and weekend events.
- Helps supervise the distribution, collection, maintenance and inventory control of equipment, supplies, uniforms, awards etc.
- Works cooperatively with colleagues to share efforts and students to support the entire music program. Co-Teaching, team player.
- Sufficient keyboard skills to run rehearsals without accompanist.
- Helps support selected school and community events by supplying appropriate music groups.
- Supervision, committee assignments and other duties as assigned.
- Communicate, plan and collaborate with parent boosters. Willingness to involve student groups in community opportunities and support other musical activities at West High School. i.e. Big Dance show choir invitational, musical, caroling etc.
- Cooperate with and participate in building-based initiatives i.e., data teams and focus teams.
- Successful candidates must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches her/his full potential.
- Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
- Previous experience as a secondary level choral director preferred.
- Ability to work with feeder programs and personnel to ensure the continued growth of West’s vocal music program.
- Other duties as assigned, including building committee assignments and supervision.

- Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
- Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
