Strategic Responsibility:
Requires a unique blend of desktop publishing, graphic design, and prepress production, as well as interpersonal skills. Provide services including but not limited to: page layout, text flowing, scanning, OCR, digital archiving and retrieval, file server management, soft and hard proofing. Must possess a solid knowledge of 4-color printing process and prepress requirements.
Job Description:
- Ensure that job tickets received from internal customers are completed correctly so larger projects can be completed with speed and accuracy.
- Research corrections for book reprints and ensure all necessary changes are entered according to updated printer and editorial standards with quick deadlines.
- Perform digital archiving of job and/or digital asset. Transfer PDF/X, CFO, source and native files, raw image assets into Digital Asset Library. Put it into the right location, in the right format following Good Asset guidelines and attach the appropriate rights/licenses/permissions.
- Prepare Good Digital Assets: Package the data or media to include but not limited to all images in CMYK, correct fonts, complete links, as well as preparing pages for prepress production.
- Prepare jobs for printer. Convert to PDF/X and CFO. Provide color accurate hardcopy or soft copy proofs to printers and/or internal customers. Transmit prepared job to printer and internal customers.
- Work closely with designers and copy editors, as well as Production, to make recommendations to implement streamlined processes. Provide input regarding technology, particularly in the area of curriculum development and online file development.
- Stay current with publishing and digital asset technologies. This includes staying on the leading edge of repurposing files for the internet. Maintain an attitude of flexibility in a changing environment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Formal Education: Bachelors degree in graphic arts/art/publishing/journalism or 4 years publishing experience
- Experience: 13 years in publishing, graphic arts field or prepress production 13 years editorial concept-to-design-to-print experience
- Specialized Knowledge/Certification: Must be able to work in broad range of graphic design applications. Must have working knowledge of graphic design and publishing service provider. Certifications in InDesign, PhotoShop, Asset Management a plus.
- Equipment Knowledge: Expert in Mac OS X basic file management. Intermediate experience in Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Font Technology, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat (PDF). Web and digital asset management required with basic experience in a variety of web browsers. Familiar with scanning equipment.
