Davidson Community Players Seeks an Executive Director
Davidson Community Players (DCP) is seeking a highly skilled Executive Director to help us further our vision of being the region’s premiere community theater. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director will oversee and continually develop the strategic and operational efficiencies of our programs and staff. This seasoned leader will not only understand current trends in the arts but will also have experience in developing and implementing a successful fundraising plan. Experience in hiring and managing staff is essential, and established relationships with local community groups is a plus.
Above all, the Executive Director should be highly effective in a leadership role that requires clear communication skills and decisiveness. A visible and vocal advocate, both internally and in the community at large, the executive director will demonstrate the ability to organize and motivate other people to accomplish goals, create a sense of order and direction, and gain active participation among a variety of stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE INCLUDE:
- Leading an engaged, professional staff, as well as enthusiastic volunteers
- Leading financial planning and execution, providing analysis, developing earned and contributed revenue forecasting models and scenario plans, and making financial recommendations to the board
- Identifying and securing grants that sustain the operation and growth of the organization, and cultivating relationships with individual donors, potential corporate sponsors, and other funders to support increased contributed revenue
- Leading efforts to broaden the donor base and increase overall revenue for the operations
- Serving as a committed, forward-thinking, and accessible leader for DCP with a passionate connection to the organization’s mission
- Providing oversight of operations and programming for the theater, including theatrical productions events
- Collaborating with the Director of Education to foster strong and innovative programs for youth
- Developing and sustaining cooperative and collaborative partnerships in the Lake Norman region and surrounding communities
- Verifying that projects are managed in compliance with contractual agreements, ordinances, regulations, laws, and other requirements
- Regularly engaging board members, acting as a liaison between board committees, staff, and the Artistic Director
- Committing to a positive culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access
- Supporting marketing, publicity, communications, and public relations efforts to advance DCP programs
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or finance preferred
- Seven or more years of experience in senior management, preferably with nonprofit organizations
- Strong experience in financial planning, cash flow forecasting, and budget execution
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles for nonprofit organizations, including staff coaching and professional development
- Proven success working with a board of directors
- Familiarity with nonprofit grant opportunities, especially in the theatre arts area
- Entrepreneurial mindset and an innovative approach to business planning
- Experience in a theatre setting is preferred but not required
