We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Director with a deep knowledge of matters concerning HR departments to ensure that all human resources (HR) operations are carried on smoothly and effectively.
Position Summary
The HR Director facilitates and manages employee relations on behalf of the company. This role serves as the go-to person for all employee-related issues. This includes but is not limited to all aspects of the employee experience, such as onboarding, offboarding, employee engagement & retention, leave management, managing employee disputes and disciplinary issues. May assist with performance management efforts and recommend policy changes when appropriate.
In this role, you will be responsible for recommending HR strategies, providing guidance to operational leadership, and ensuring compliance. As HR Director you will support the employee population throughout the company, oversee HR initiatives, handle employment relations, analyze and report on HR metrics to support informed decision making and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations. This position will have frequent interaction and exposure to DCC's executive leadership team in Lisle, IL.
Core Duties/Key Responsibilities
- HR Leadership - Helps shape and develop corporate plans for a variety of HR matters on how to best meet both employee and business objectives. Builds relationships with management, employees, business partners and vendors.
- Employee Relations & Engagement - Identify ways to increase employee retention and engagement through leadership and team development, regular feedback and coaching, and promoting a company culture that positions DCC Propane as a "Great Place to Work".
- Team Management - Build a team of HR Specialists and Generalists to support employees throughout the organization. Closely manage and enable HR team's performance ensuring they address employee's requests and grievances in a timely manner handling HR operations consistently throughout the organization.
- Performance Improvement - Lead the effective and efficient administration of the performance management process, making sure that the organization's managers are equipped to engage in constructive and ongoing feedback and coaching, collaborate effectively when managing the team, and encourage leaders to actively participate in identifying and addressing performance gaps.
- Grievance and Disciplinary Management - Bridge management and employee relations by addressing concerns, grievances or other issues. Deal with grievances and violations invoking disciplinary action when required. Anticipate and resolve litigation risks.
- HR Compliance - Maintain current knowledge and application of all relevant laws and regulations at the local, state and national level relating to employment and ensure organizational compliance. This includes educating and advising managers and senior leaders on HR-related legal and regulatory matters and ensuring HR programs, practices and policies are aligned. Ensure that employee files and records are properly and securely maintained.
Position Qualifications
Experience/Education
Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree; Master's Degree preferred
Fields of Study Preferred: Human Resources, Business Administration, Communication or Psychology
Certification: SHRM and/or HRCI certification required or attained within 6 months of hire
Required Work Experience:
- 3 years of proven work experience as HR Director
- Experience managing a human resource team
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Microsoft Applications: Extremely proficient (in particular, Excel and PowerPoint)
Additional Technology: High technical capabilities with ability to quickly learn and utilize new technologies.
Travel: Ability to travel up to 30%
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required
