Position Summary:
The EH&S Manager role is responsible for management and improvement of EHS programs to reduce risks, eliminate injuries and increase overall EH&S performance. The EH&S Manager will oversee and ensure compliance with all applicable EH&S policies and resolve EH&S deficiencies and/or issues. This incumbent will have responsibility for OSHA and any other EHS related regulatory compliance, injury prevention programs, environmental compliance such as EMS (Environmental Management Systems) and any other environmental related regulatory compliance, injury case management (i.e. working knowledge of injury claims), site security, technical safety advice and have the ability to educate others on safety in a very diverse work environment. By your key position in our company, you will support our environmental and social initiatives to drive progress against our corporate social responsibility and B Corp certification ambitions.
What you will Do:
- Implement and ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and environmental rules and regulations.
- Oversees management, implementation and compliance with site COVID Prevention Program in accordance with OSHA and Bonduelle Fresh Americas requirements and/or any future health pandemic situations.
- Oversees local site security services, practices, response and daily operations.
- Manages facility environmental programs in the areas of hazardous waste, Storm Water pollution, and waste water management. Informs management of environmental problems and solutions involving employees, the company and public. Prepares/submits environmental reports in compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations.
- Oversee the site's EMS Programs (Environmental Management System), monitor equipment via a software platform to identify and report to management any deficiencies in utility consumption on a regular basis.
- Ensures all associates, both hourly and management, receive all training necessary to safely perform respective duties and operate within the plant environment. This includes training for managers on programs they are required to implement and/or new hire onboarding for employees and temp agencies associates.
- Regularly plans, implements and trains site personnel on various EH&S policies and programs, including, but not limited to, safety practices, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, regulations and standards, and incident investigation.
- Identifies and suggests corrective measures to improve the facility’s accident experience and suggest/implement means to achieve EH&S goals.
- Ensures that mandatory OSHA reporting is completed, i.e. annual BLS and OSHA 300 log, notifications of serious accidents, etc.
- Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and prepares material and evidence as needed.
- Regularly inspects facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines and implements corrective or preventive measures where indicated.
- Oversees the administration of the workers’ compensation program for the site; supports the Corporate EH&S program and direction and maintains EH&S files and records.
- Oversee, manage and support at the local level; various Safety Platforms such as General Safety, Task and Behavior Based Observations and any actions that may be needed. Injury, Near Miss and Vehicle Event reporting and investigation requirements, SDS Management and any other safety related activities that support the overall function and improvement in safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned either by corporate level safety or the Plant Director.
What you will Need:
- At least 5 years and a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on EH&S or related (science, engineering) preferred.
- Or at least 7 years experience and a CSP or an undergraduate degree in related fields noted in the first bullet.
- At least 3 of your years are related to supporting a large manufacturing/production facility (required w/food pref.)
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts is a plus
- Certification in Safety (CSP) or other credentials nationally recognised EHS certification strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and proven track record of results with bias for action.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to utilize time and resources effectively and efficiently.

- Physical Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to perform repetitive movements, occasionally lifting 50 or more pounds. The associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to extreme cold. The associate frequently works in high, precarious places. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
