Snow Laborer/Shoveler Overview
The Snow Laborer works with a team to keep high foot-traffic areas on the airfield safe and clear of ice/snow to allow continued airport operations. They will perform tasks that involve manual labor related to snow removal, such as shoveling and spreading snow-melting chemicals. We are looking for hardy, active people that want to move around at work and learn more about the facilities management field. Rest breaks, snacks and warming opportunities during shifts will be provided.
Snow Laborer/Shoveler Responsibilities
- Shovel snow and/or operate snowblower to remove snow in designated areas
- Load and unload bags of salt into spreader or bucket
- Apply snow/ice management chemicals with a push spreader or manually
- Accurately and promptly follow directions from supervisor
Snow Laborer/Shoveler Requirements
- Must be able to shovel snow for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds plus
- Able to work 4-8 hours of physical labor outside. May involve longer shifts for heavier snowstorms.
- Ability to obtain Airport security badge
- Reliable transportation to and from the checking office
- Need to have a cell phone for communication with supervisor
- Ability to obtain Airport security badge
- On-Call availability from October 1st to April 30th, must be willing and able to work long hours, weekends and holidays
- Required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, grasp, carry, push and pull
- Must provide own outdoor footwear (boots), clothing, gloves and head covering appropriate for outside conditions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
