What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at Delaware, County of (OH)?
Individual performs, maintains, and tracks vehicle maintenance and repairs as needed to ensure safety and quality standards. Individual reports to the Facility, Asset, and Technology Manager.Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Two years experience in the automotive or heavy vehicle maintenance field, both gasoline and diesel. Must be certified, or willing to be certified, in the maintenance of Braun wheelchair lifts. Must possess a State of Ohio Driver's License, CDL Class B air brakes with passenger endorsement license or ability to obtain it, and acceptable driving record. Must meet and maintain qualifications for driving on county business at all times. Additional certification may be required as needed.
Performs related essential/non-essential functions as required.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Equipment: Ability to operate a variety of mechanical tools, equipment, and supplies related to the repair and maintenance of vehicles and the facility. Must provide own toolbox and hand tools. Must possess computer skills needed to record and track maintenance and repairs and communicate via email.
Critical Skills/Expertise:
Work will include a variety of minor to complex problem-solving and repairs. Individual must be proficient in computer skills to record work orders, and program software and radios. Must be able to read and understand service manuals. Must be able to communicate effectively both written and orally with co-workers and supervisors. Individual must be able to use hand tools and other necessary machinery.
III. RESPONSIBILITY
Supervisor provides general guidance allowing the individual the ability to plan the procedures and methods to attain objectives. Individual operates independent of supervision in handling daily operations, normally receiving supervisor’s input when needed. Errors in work may cause inaccuracies in reports, records, or technical data, along with safety risks to drivers and passengers.
IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Contact is with co-workers, supervisors, and executive director. Individual will also collaborate with outside vendors and mechanics. Instructing drivers on operation, safety, and maintenance procedures may also be required. Individual will be expected to communicate independently, as well as a team player in troubleshooting and problem solving.
V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of the position include working in and on vehicles, buildings, and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to driving, climbing, stooping, kneeling, walking, and lifting in excess of 50 pounds.
Physical Activity: The physical activity of the position is lifting, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, listening, and reaching.
Visual Activity: The minimum visual activity of the seeing job is close to the eyes.
Job Location: The work conditions include an indoor office setting, as well as working in a garage environment with moderate gasoline fumes, airborne dust and dirt, and temperature extremes. Outdoor work may be required as needed out on the road and/or at any of DCT’s assets, such as shelters.
- Perform and track all required routine maintenance and repairs, including fluid and filter changes, on all vehicles;
- Perform and track all required emergency exit inspections and wheelchair lift inspections;
- Handle on-the-road incidents that require towing or changing of vehicles;
- Maintain all vehicles to required safety standards;
- Track and stock required parts and supplies;
- Wash and clean vehicles as needed;
- Perform minor vehicle body repair; and
- Perform minor facility repairs as needed.
- Operate DCT-owned vehicles as needed
- Perform grounds work of the facility and assets as needed, including lawn care and snow removal
