Delta Retirement Center in Lansing is seeking an outgoing, responsible, dedicated individual to transport our residents to and from doctor appointments and outings.
Job Summary:
- Operate company passenger van/bus to transport residents to and from doctor appointments, outings, etc.
- To complete all routes as near to schedule as possible, and communicate to the facility if there is any anticipated/ actual deviations from schedule.
- Check appointment book daily for assignment.
- To be courteous to all clients, residents, employees and public at all times.
- Maintain company vehicles according to company policy.
- Check van/bus for oil, water, etc. and keeps them replenished as needed.
- Conduct safety checks and immediately notify the Executive Director of any violations/irregularities. Make appointments as necessary with an authorized repair garage to correct any problems.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Key Staff.
Qualifications:
- EDUCATION: Ability to speak and read English. Ability to follow oral and written directions in English.
- TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must have knowledge of Michigan Laws and have a clean driving record.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Good physical and mental health. Finger and hand dexterity to operate a motor vehicle and perform minor maintenance of vehicle. Visual and auditory acuity to function in a driving capacity. Must be able to continuously sit for long periods of time while driving. Must be able to turn, crouch, kneel, stoop, bend below waist, and reach above shoulder height as tasks dictate, including assisting clients and residents as needed in boarding and disembarking vehicle. Must be able to lift a minimum of seventy-five (75) lbs., and be able to carry objects. Must be able to push and pull a minimum of one hundred (100) pounds occasion-ally, including individuals in wheelchairs. Must use good body mechanics. Must be dependable, honest, industrious and have a neat personal appearance. Must have a positive attitude to deal with traffic, detours, etc. in order to meet schedules. Must also be able to deal with the demand of driving during adverse conditions and inclement weather. Needs to have knowledge of the general area and/or the ability to read and understand city street maps and guides. Must have basic knowledge of vehicles to be able to check oil, water, fuel, etc. and replenish as needed. Also, the ability to recognize any irregularities in the performance or operation of the vehicle and report it to the proper person. Able to work with elderly including individuals with Alzheimer's dementia
