The role:

We are now seeking equipment technicians to join our teams in Bend, Salem and La Grande! In this position you will perform maintenance to specialized and complex equipment used in highway maintenance, construction and testing. Apply today!

This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before 03/01/2023. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. This position has the potential to become permanent.

A day in the life:

  • Perform equipment repair and diagnosis.

  • Troubleshoot, adjust, modify, repair, diagnose, and replace, on all types and sizes of highway maintenance, anti-icing and snow removal equipment.

  • Repair and modify ODOT and highway maintenance equipment using mobile and stationary welding and cutting equipment, arc and wire feed welders, acetylene torches and plasma arc cutters.

  • Track daily hours spent on jobs by tasking on and off of work orders in the Fleet Information Management System (FIMS).

  • Exposure to dust, welding and cutting fumes, exhaust fumes, petroleum products, deicer chemicals and herbicides, and high noise levels sometimes requiring the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • May require working along roadsides with exposure to traffic, and working alone in isolated and remote areas such as rock pits, stockpile areas and mountain top communication sites.

  • Overnight travel and overtime work will be required.

  • This position requires hard physical labor during all types of conditions, such as standing, bending, stooping and climbing on, over, under and around all types of equipment.

  • Physical lifting of up to 50 pounds or more is required, with assistance lifting of up to 100 pounds or more on a periodic basis.

What we need:

  • Four (4) years of experience as a journeyman Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

The State of Oregon requires all executive branch employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series or have an approved exception to the requirement due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.   • Experience performing equipment diagnosis and repairs.

  • Proficiency using computers (on board and laptop) for troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs.

  • Demonstrated ability to bring a positive, dependable and team oriented attitude to the team.

  • Experience in heavy equipment repair and fabrication.
