The VP of State Management manages the ~$20B Personal Lines P&L for home, auto, and renters’ insurance lines on a state and national level. Responsibilities include driving profitable product and member growth within established product, pricing, and underwriting guardrails. Responsible for managing the execution of product and member strategy and ensuring regional and state-level plans achieve national targets and balancing trade-offs and investment across products and regions. Accountable for country-wide regulatory, product, and member insights and for collaborating with national Product Teams to define the product roadmap.
What you'll do:
Directly responsible for leading growth in USAA’s auto, home, and renters personal lines insurance product portfolio and works collaboratively with Product Leads, Member and Product Forecasting, Underwriting, D&S, Claims, Actuary, and other P&C and enterprise business partners to deliver an industry leading product offering that meets Member needs and drives profitability. Responsible for balancing priorities and proposing tradeoffs in pricing, underwriting, and marketing decisions across auto, home, and renters product lines, keeping a holistic view of USAA’s profitability, growth, and member experience.
Monitors industry trends and recommends state-level premium and policy growth targets aligned to overall P&C plan.
Sets the design and strategy of standardized reporting capabilities and provides regional and national performance reporting to senior management (including USAA performance and industry benchmark data).
Serves as the expert of the country-wide competitive landscape, responsible for staying up to date with evolving product, competitive, and regulatory developments and risks.
Collaborates closely with National Product Leads and Member and Product Forecasting to identify opportunities for improvements to the product offering, delivery, and future state, while evolving USAA’s segmentation strategy, and bundling opportunities to maximize market share, profitability, member satisfaction, and retention.
Partners collaboratively across Product, Member and Product Forecasting, Underwriting, Actuary, Marketing, Finance, Credit Risk Management, Legal, Information Technology, Operations, and the Distribution Sales and Services groups to deliver an industry leading product offering that drives strong profitability growth across USAA.
Accountable for operating within established policies and guidelines, and acting in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and supervisory guidance, including those related to consumer protection, including ensuring policy exceptions are promptly and effectively assessed and escalated.
Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor's Degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
10 years of progressive related experience within Financial Services developing strategies, managing major initiatives, and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.
8 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
Extensive experience managing and monitoring a large P&L with strong business and financial capabilities around product P&L.
Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
Senior executive-level business acumen in insurance business operations, industry practices, and emerging trends.
Demonstrated understanding of the full spectrum of regulatory actions, including examinations and other supervisory engagement and processes, such as State insurance laws and regulations and/or NAIC Financial Condition Examiners Handbook.
Extensive experience designing and owning product roadmap, strategy, and definition.
Expert knowledge of applicable product related regulations, and risk and compliance requirements.

Compensation:
USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $238,900.00-430,000.00.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
