Project EngineerDewberry is currently searching for a Project Engineer to join our Disaster Recovery Services team. While the core team is located in our Fairfax, VA office, candidates can work remotely and are expected to travel to disaster locations for extended periods of time and attend quarterly or more frequent meetings in Fairfax, as required. The selected Project Engineer will support existing disaster recovery contracts and support business development focused on federal, state, and local disaster recovery work.This position requires prior experience supporting Federal, state and local entities with disaster recovery, specifically FEMA’s Public Assistance, Individual Assistance, Logistics, and Hazard Mitigation programs or HUD’s CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT Programs. Prior experience in infrastructure and housing is required. Individuals must have the ability to travel to disaster sites, manage and train field personnel, and provide onsite technical solutions. The Project Engineer makes critical decisions within their areas of responsibilities and exercises authority as delegated by the Program Manager(s), Senior Project Managers, and Business Unit Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate is expected to support projects and work with individuals in support of disaster recovery projects for state, local, and Federal clients
  • Have strong organization, client engagement, staff engagement, written and verbal communication skills and be able to support proposal development for new work.
  • Assess a recovery project work status, costs, and supporting documentation
  • Researching the details of written approved grants, contracts, invoices, payment logs, timesheets, purchase orders, procurement and other documentation to help resolve cost inconsistencies in a grant
  • Providing feedback when grant funding adjustments are needed due to duplication of funding, additional scope of work items, or changes in project costs

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area required
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiar with Share Point, Box, and other file sharing sites/capabilities
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Arc GIS Online, and relational data base software is a plus
  • Experience in the disaster recovery business
  • Must have a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to various tasks and changing demands
  • Ability to work independently while following instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required
  • US citizen and ability to obtain a security badge is required
  • Ability to work overtime and/or remotely is required
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Detail oriented in nature with the ability to place details into a broader picture
  • Background and experience in grant management, financial management and/or management consulting
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate with managers, team members, clients, and stakeholders and do so with diplomacy and tact.
