Dewberry is currently seeking an enthusiastic and talented Sustainability Planner to join our Sustainability group. The group is in the Northeast Environmental, Planning Department. The successful candidate will have technical, project management, and marketing responsibilities to support environmental sustainability projects related to the transportation, resilience, urban development, and alternative energy industry. Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
The position involves performing environmental analyses and sustainability planning in support of energy, transportation, resilience, and urban infrastructure projects.
Duties may include:
- Conducting extensive research, data collection, analysis and the preparation of written technical documentation pertaining to land use, policy, demographics (including Environmental Justice populations), hazard risk and vulnerability, transportation and transit, among others.
- Writing and developing comprehensive planning documents and sustainability strategies.
- Supporting Project Managers and task leaders.
- Working collaboratively with other Subject Matter Experts to complete comprehensive environmental documents.
- Conducting community and stakeholder engagement activities associated with various planning and engineering projects. These activities can include stakeholder identification and contact information collection, letter/invitation/announcement drafting and mass mailing, presentation development and delivery, outreach material creation, mapping, press release development, and various other media outreach creation.
- Assisting with planning and facilitating meetings, workshops, stakeholder outreach, public meetings and open houses.
- Experience with MS Office suite, InDesign, data visualization and electronic survey tools desirable
- Experience with GIS a plus
Required Skills & Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or a related field; MS preferred
- Minimum 5 years of environmental and/or transportation planning experience.
- Strong written and oral communication and data management/visualization skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus.
- Ability to be self-motivated and function both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Well-developed time management skills, especially the ability to complete high-quality, detail-oriented deliverables on tight timelines amid competing deadlines within a diverse work group.
- Ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and tact in obtaining and analyzing information.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively with coworkers, clients, and our clients’ stakeholders.
- Experience researching, planning, and developing plans, policies, procedures, and/or guidance.
- Ability to synthesize, analyze, and organize complex information into a clear and coherent description.
