Position: Boy’s Water Polo Coach

Hours (subject to change):
Monday - Friday 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM Practices
Weekend Practices/Scrimmages
Weeknight and weekend games – Game starting times vary
Rate of Pay:
Based on applicable step/salary scale as per applicable DEA contract schedule
Qualifications:
- Previous playing and coaching experience at the high school and/or college level
- Working knowledge of water polo is essential
- Coaching Administrative Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coaching experience in water polo
- Experience in building a program that includes the development of young players, conducting off-season conditioning programs, and the ability to teach fundamental skills and techniques
- A valid Michigan teaching certificate is desirable
- Previous experience working with children/students
- The candidate should demonstrate an interest in and an aptitude for performing the assignment of head coach
- Any alternatives to the State qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate may be considered
- The MHSAA P.A. C.E. Program is recommended for all coaches
- Knowledge of CPR and First Aid is recommended
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assist the Athletic Director in interviewing prospective coaches for assigned assistant positions
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the sport to be coached
- Maintain professional competency by attending clinics and state rules meetings
- Delegate responsibility appropriately to assistant coaches
- Encourage athletes to excel in academic work
- Submit an annual record of the results of contests and records
- Submit to the Athletic Director an annual listing of award winners
- Supervise the issuance, cleaning, storage, return, and care of all athletic equipment
- Advise on purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as necessary
- Oversee the safety conditions of the area when team members are practicing
- Enforce disciplined behavior, and code of fair play; establish and oversee penalties for not following team and school standards and rules. Report all incidents to the Athletic Director
- Work as a team member of the coaching staff
- Establish an effective relationship with team members
- Establish an effective relationship with parents
- Attend practices, games, and meets punctually
- Use professional conduct, language, and decorum with staff, teammates, opponents, officials, and fans
- Maintain player eligibility information
- Encourage athletes to participate in other sports
- Keep the Athletic Director informed of any or all problems before, during, or after sporting events
- Teach individual participants the skills necessary for the highest possible achievement of the sport involved
- Plan, schedule, and supervise a regular program of practice in the season
- Assist students regarding future plans, e.g. college entrance, scholarships, etc
- Work closely with the Athletic Director in scheduling athletic contests
- Submit necessary rosters, physical forms, eligibility list forms, and training rule forms signed by parents
- Work with all involved administrators
- Show concern and provide guidance for the "feeder" system
- Be a positive role model to athletes and the community
- Adhere to the rules and regulations as detailed by the MHSAA, Dexter Community Schools Board of
- Education and polices and all other applicable policies and guidelines
- Submit entries to tournaments and other contests in a timely fashion
- Maintain team attendance records and medical emergency cards
- Work to promote increased participation to improve methods, techniques, strengths, and endurance both in and out of season
- Submit written criteria for "cutting" athletes at tryouts
- Assist in the planning of team banquets and honor nights
- Display self-control and maintain a positive profile in relationships with officials
- Display self-control and maintain a positive profile with the administration
- Report scores of contests to the media
- Work in coordination with community support groups and/or clubs affiliated with the sport
- Support our district mission and vision by supporting athletics as part of the educational experience for our students
- Perform other such services and assume such other duties as assigned by the administrator in charge, which are not in violation of the master contract, if applicable, school district policies or rules and regulations
