The Deputy Sheriff I will investigate incidents to enforce law and order and protect life and property. Work varies requiring individual judgment, following policy, statutes and prescribed standards and procedures. Job Responsibilities
JOB DUTIES - PATROL
Patrol assigned areas for crime prevention and enforcement of criminal laws, traffic laws and County ordinances. Work an assigned shift schedule. Provide general assistance to the public. Respond to Calls for Service requests. Perform initial and follow-up investigations of crimes involving adults and juveniles. Conduct interviews, interrogations, make arrests and prepare all necessary paperwork for court (affidavits, search warrants, returns on search warrants, etc.). Collect and secure evidence involved in law enforcement incidents. Prepare all necessary reports including Case Reports, Case Supplement Reports, Incident Supplement Reports, Accident Reports, Accident Supplement Reports, Courtesy Reports, Kansas Standard Arrest Reports (KSAR), etc. Testify in court, make arrests, issue citations, issue written warnings, serve warrants, serve subpoenas and serve civil process papers. Investigate criminal offenses, traffic offenses, traffic complaints, and accidents. Report traffic hazards and road conditions to assist the Highway Department when needed. Respond to and assist fellow agency members and outside agencies when needed. Respond to and assist with civil standbys. Transport prisoners. Provide court security when needed. Assist with hazardous material incidents, fire calls, medical calls, alarms, livestock incidents, and Wildlife and Parks incidents and violations. Participate in grant programs. Perform law enforcement functions in contract cities. Perform crime prevention talks. Performance Measurement
Must be 21 years of age.
Must have a High School diploma or the equivalent. (College preferred)
Must have a valid driver"s license and be insurable under Dickinson County"s fleet insurance policy. If from out-of-state, must obtain a Kansas driver"s license within 90 days.
Must successfully pass all required background checks.
Must successfully pass the National Police Officer Selection Test (NPOST)
Must successfully pass all required psychological testing.
Must successfully pass all required fitness for duty and drug screen testing.
Must have the flexibility to adapt to new ideas and changing conditions.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
Must have experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds, philosophies, and behavioral patterns.
Must have the ability to make decisions, act quickly and remain calm during stressful and/or emergency situations.
No felony or domestic violence convictions, including diversions and expungements.
Serious misdemeanor convictions will be evaluated, including diversions and expungements.
Must already have, or obtain, certification as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) within one (1) year of being hired.
