Responsible for greeting patients, gathering demographic and insurance information, scheduling and confirming appointments for established as well as new patients, both for office visits and procedures, posting charges, and keeping communication with other departments open, answering the telephones, copying materials, filing records and verifying and updating the patient data.
Note: This position encompasses the check-in, scheduling and middle front desk positions.
Experience:
· Minimum of one year work experience, preferably in a back office/doctor's office situation.
· Knowledge of medical terminology and good spelling skills.
· Able to multitask.
· Some computer skills.

- Able to handle stressful situations.
Essential Functions:
· When patient enters office greets patients in a polite, prompt and helpful manner.
· Informs appropriate department/nurse of appointment arrival.
· Accurately enters and updates patient demographics and insurance information in the computer.
· Responsible for initiation and making sure patient has completed the patient history and medical information for medical records chart.
· Collects the appropriate co-pays and other outstanding balances and post to the patients account.
· Prepares fee ticket batches by the end of the business day and forwards all pertinent information to the Central Business Office (CBO).
· Answers telephones in a pleasant and helpful manner at all times and deals with the patient needs expeditiously. If you are not able to handle the situation please forward the patient to the appropriate department or supervisor.
· Schedule and confirm appointments and procedures according to the practice policies.
· Prepare patient charts for appointments.
· Provide necessary instructions and information to patients via telephone, mail or in person regarding their appointments, preps, directions to offices, etc.
· Reschedule patients via telephone when physician schedule changes. Prints schedules daily and forwards to the appropriate areas and physicians.
· Communicates any scheduling problem to Operations Manager, Physician, or Office supervisor.
· Operates and troubleshoots EPM, EPIC software.
Requirements:
· Minimum of one year experience in a physician's office in a front.
· Typing 40 wpm
Education Requirements:
· High school diploma or GED required.
Knowledge:
· Knowledge of GI experience preferred.
· Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type patient information into computer system
· Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to chart information.
· Knowledge of EPIC/EMR helpful
Skills
· Skill in collecting and charting patient information.
· Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner and using a multi-line telephone system.
· Skill in customer service principles by creating a pleasant waiting room atmosphere.
· Skill in operating a computer and copy machine.
