FIELD SURVEY SPECIALIST

Field Survey Specialist / Instrument Operator

This is a field survey position that involves working on a survey crew to perform duties such as operating survey equipment, to collect data or layout points for a variety of diverse projects from Boundary, Topographic and Construction layout to name a few.   Clear underbrush, dig holes, search for monuments, or set stakes, iron rods or concrete bounds when needed.  Operate survey data collectors and understand survey coding and labeling standards of data collecting and field to finish programs.  Check and maintain survey instruments rods, prisms, tools etc.   Maintain and charge batteries and radios, secure vehicles, and equipment and at the end of the workday.   Assist the Survey crew Chief in accomplishing field assignments in an efficient manner.  Must be dependable, honest, get along and cooperate well with others in a team.  

Must have some basic technical skills in mathematics and some knowledge of field survey work.  Knowledge of land surveying, precise measurements, land areas, boundaries and monument, and topographical features.  Knowledge of Survey Total Stations and Survey grade GPS is needed to perform in this position.  knowledge of civil engineering and survey terminology and how to read maps and civil drawings.  Vocational CAD skills or CAD training can be helpful in this position using hand-held computers.  Must have a valid driver's license or ability to get one.  Meet the physical demand of field work, working outdoors in varying environments, weather conditions and endure typical exposure to insects, poisonous plants that are naturally in our area.  Must be capable of lifting and transporting up to 40 Lbs. for a period of up to 30 minutes.  You must be able to walk, climb stairs or ladders or stand for extended periods of time. Must have the ability of verbal and written communications in English.  Must have good vision to see and focus to use survey instruments to distinguish shapes, sizes, distance, and colors.  Must have OHSA 10 construction safety or the ability to get this card via training or on-line class.
