Job Description

Pixel Acuity, a leading heritage digitization company, is seeking two contract Digital Imaging Specialists for an onsite digitization project in Urbana, Illinois from April 2023 to approximately February 2024 depending on project duration and needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BFA in photography, imaging, or related field, and/or or equivalent related work experience.
  • Experience with heritage materials including, but not limited to, bound and unbound manuscripts, photographic prints, fine and decorative art, 3D object artifacts, and still film positive and negative items.
  • Expertise with post-production, color management, and profiling software applications (Capture One, Adobe Creative Suite, BasICColor)
  • Expert knowledge of ColorSync and digital color management, creating custom profiles, reading calibration targets, and RAW imaging processing
  • Knowledge of non-destructive editing, current imaging and heritage technologies, standards, and best practices (FADGI, Metamorfoze, relevant ISO standards)
  • Knowledge of Mac operating systems and associated software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of File Transfer applications and cloud-based storage options such as Amazon S3 and FTP preferred.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated with ability to work both supervised and unsupervised.
  • Great communication skills and ability to work with others.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Using Phase One digital copy camera systems as well as digital medium format cameras, the Digital Imaging Technician will primarily be responsible for imaging heritage materials and utilizing target validation tools to ensure archival and preservation-grade digital images.
  • The successful candidate will perform post-capture editing adjustments and processing
  • and review image files using Capture One software and other applications.
  • Digital Imaging Technician will be skilled in organizing files on MacOS computers and updating progress tracking and production reports daily.
  • Continually gaining knowledge to master advanced Capture One concepts, scripting, and capture technologies and to troubleshoot Phase One and Digital Transitions hardware.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to improve efficiency while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Safely handle both loose and bound document materials throughout the digitization process
  • Communicate with PA/DT’s Project Managers about imaging requests, send results for feedback and approval, make adjustments as needed and upload final results to cloud-based server or HD.
  • Track throughput and align with production expectations throughout the project
  • Other Duties as assigned

Supervision

The Digital Imaging Technician will directly report to the Project Manager and will work both independently and collaboratively depending on the tasks at hand. Imaging instructions and digitization standards will be provided and explained at the beginning of the project and oversight will continue throughout its duration. The work of a Digital Imaging Technician requires close attention to detail and closely following imaging instructions. Additional training on technical and specific tasks for this position will be provided on-site.

Able to lift 50 pounds

Able to work in front of a computer around 6 hours per day

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
