Duty Schedule:
Full-time professional environmental analysis position. 40 hours per week supervised by Ph.D. scientist in Tsaile Core Lab.
Summary/Objective of Position:
Dine' College Water is Life Center is hiring a full-time environmental scientist to operate and manage our core Water is Life analytical lab and archive. Operation and maintenance of ICP-MS, GC-MS and LC-MS analytical instrumentation, DNA sequencing, basic microbiological assays to monitor and support the researchers of the Water is Life Center.

Operation and maintenance of ICP-MS, GC-MS and LC-MS analytical instrumentation, DNA sequencing, basic microbiological assays to monitor and support the researchers of the Water is Life Center.
Design and maintain sample storage and GIS-linked research database to re-patriate and archive samples and data relating to the environmental research on the Navajo Nation.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related discipline. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and laboratory experience.
Preferred:
Theoretical and working knowledge of mass spectroscopy, DNA sequencing and microbiology. 2 years of science laboratory experience at University level.
Knowledge:
• Analytical chemical procedures and reporting.
• Knowledge and experience with molecular biological techniques.
• Knowledge of laboratory research needs and major vendors.
• Computer mastery of Excel, Work, email, internet and QuickBooks.
Skills:
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Professional demeanor.
• Organization and lab record keeping.
Abilities:
• Comfortable with numbers and math.
• Ability to build long-term working relationship with scientist investigators.
• Ability to coordinate and work online through Zoom or similar applications with multiple campuses.
• Organizational skills
• Responsive communicator in person, telephone, email, etc.
Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:
• Use of college vehicle, which requires updated Navajo Nation Public Highway Safety certificate.
• Proficient in the use of Computer Software, such as Microsoft Office and Zoom.
• Works primarily, although not exclusively, in a climate-controlled environment.
• Able to lift 35 lbs.
Other Requirement(s):
• Valid Driver's License and Navajo Nation Tribal Permit to drive college vehicles.
• familiarity with biology, chemistry and environmental vocabulary helpful, but not mandatory.
