Summary/Objective of Position:
The Student Mental Health Coordinator is responsible for a sound counseling referral process and virtual wellness support to college students. The Coordinator will create a cohesive culture of wellness by developing, implementing and evaluating outreach and educational activities in these areas of student life: health promotion, mental/emotional health and wellness, and academic support. The Coordinator promotes the development of a culture of mental, emotional, physical wellness and resilience to promote healthy student behavior across the campuses, ensuring student retention and success.

PLANS, ORGANIZES, AND COORDINATES
Provides leadership, direction, and professional guidance to Student Support Specialist and Academic Advisor.
Collaborates and coordinates with the Associate Director of Student Affairs on program planning, event planning, collaboration, staff professional development, and strategic outcomes.
Develops strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for a cohesive mental health promotion programs, policies, and services.
Implements evidence based programming to improve student wellness awareness and behaviors and to eliminate health disparities; provide direct guidance and support for students experiencing isolation, boredom, stress, and depression.
Develops strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for a cohesive mental health promotion programs and services; ensure the adequate integration, processing and delivery of technology-oriented student support services aligned with students' skills, knowledge, and abilities.
DEVELOPS AND IMPLEMENTS NEW INITIATIVES
Designs and implements telehealth services and implement a sound student referral process for counseling services, mediating conflicts and academic help.
Designs and implements well designed innovative/new programs and services to meet the needs of the student population; to develop programs based on evidence-based research and best practices and offer a comprehensive plan for transforming approaches to student mental health; plan will be designed to help eliminate barrier and build a more supportive and inclusive campus.
Researches, designs, expands, and implements proactive and personalized student support services to promote the comprehensive development of students physically, emotionally, socially, and academically; empower students with opportunities for academic advancement.
Develops and launchs in-person and on-line (virtual) programs and initiatives for mental health education (such as health fairs) as well as targets specific interventions and creates programming initiative to support the specific challenges of diverse student groups.
COORDINATES/COLLABORATES OF SERVICES
Maintains collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to develop a stronger, cohesive and comprehensive approach to health for students; to reinforce a comprehensive/holistic development of the students.
Works directly with students who are undergoing life changes and challenges, and emotional distress.
Encourages students to participate in curricular and co-curricular learning activities that promote positive relationship building.
MONITORS AND REPORTS
Provides ongoing statistics for standard reports of student support services, mental health and wellness.
Lead the monitoring, collection, and reporting of student success rates connected with student equity and timelines; provide unit leadership with student program data when needed.
Creates a culture of wellness by assessing student wellness through surveys, focus groups, and other methods.
Develops, Implements and analyzes surveys that provide baseline data, identify program needs and priorities, evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, and track trends in student health status and behavior.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
BA/BS degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Public Health and/or closely related field; plus 3 years of higher education experience and/or 3 years of mental health or behavioral health clinical experiences.
Preferred:
MA/MS degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Public Health and/or closely related field; plus 2 years of higher education experience and/or 2 years of mental health or behavioral health clinical experiences.
Knowledge:
Working knowledge of current laws and best practices related to FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and other applicable regulations.
Knowledge of community counseling resources.
Skills:
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, and members of the public.
Proficiency with Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), tools for virtual meetings, and student information systems.
Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/tasks with thorough attention to details and consistency.
Ability to set and attain goals while working both collaboratively and independently on various projects.
Demonstrated ability to work with and among diverse communities and cultures.
Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:
The position requires average ability and good physical condition; Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy materials weighing up to approximately 25 to 50 pounds; Work may require sitting, near vision use for reading and computer use, lifting, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other physical exertion.
Other Requirement(s):
Valid state driver's license is required.
