What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cemetery Grounds Keeper position at Diocese of Great Falls-Billings?
Job Summary:
The Diocese of Great Falls-Billings comprises the eastern two-thirds of the State of Montana and includes churches, missions, and chapels of occasional worship from Gardiner to Plentywood and from Fort Shaw to Wibaux.
Catholic Cemeteries provide services which are consistent with Catholic teaching, working closely with families and local funeral homes. All burials are conducted professionally and with the utmost respect to the deceased and their family. Services provided include Full Body Burial, Cremains Burial, Columbarium for Cremains.
Groundskeeper will oversee all maintenance of cemetery property including, mowing, trimming and irrigation systems to assure a beautiful, respectful and peaceful landscape for those buried/interned and their visitors. In addition, must maintain all landscaping equipment and implement appropriate cemetery security.
Duties:
Schedule all weekly landscaping duties.
Set all fertilizing and watering schedules during summer months.
Maintain all cemetery roadways to assure safe travel within cemetery boundaries.
Required to operate a variety of lawn care equipment, such as mowers, weed eater, edger's, power vacuums, and a variety of other lawn care equipment to name a few.
Knowledge of operating tractor and backhoe equipment is a plus but not required.
Assist in all activities related to burial services.
Assure that all burial preparations are completed in a timely manner.
Sweeps, plows and shovels snow as needed.
Install, maintain and repair sprinklers and water lines.
Perform maintenance, minor construction and ground keeping work to Diocesan buildings.
Must be able to regularly lift-up to 100 lbs.; walk or stand for extended periods of time; have full bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, crawling, climbing, and lifting flexibility.
Perform work indoors or outdoors throughout the year.
Understand written and oral instructions.
Perform other duties as may be required or assigned.

Requirements:
High School Diploma
Two years of lawn care and landscaping experience.
Establish and maintain positive professional working relationships with local parishes and mortuary services.
Must be able to relate well and communicate professionally and courteously with all staff.
Requires heavy lifting and strenuous physical work.
Pass a background check and complete the annual requirements for “Safeguarding All of God’s Children.”
Work week – Monday thru Friday. Some minimal Saturday work may be required.
Valid Driver’s License required.
