Job Description
This expert level architect will be tasked with developing infrastructure automation reference architectures and strategy that enable Discover business goals. At your core you are an sr. architect that demonstrates the skills necessary to drive the infrastructure automation strategy at Discover. You will be responsible for working with product owners, engineers and leadership to create a vision & roadmap for Discover's infrastructure automation technology and capabilities. You must excel at communicating at all levels w/ability to build consensus across numerous stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the lifecycle of reference architectures that will support the infrastructure automation technology domain
- Lead the infrastructure automation product family developing a vision and strategy to enable infrastructure automation delivery across the enterprise.
- Ensures that infrastructure automation reference architectures, processes, and policies align to business goals.
- Technical consultant for large, strategic infrastructure automation efforts.
- Creates and manages infrastructure automation current and target state architectures along with a product family capability taxonomy.
- Drives adoption of new architectures by working collaboratively with product owners, engineers, and value streams.
- Collaborates with innovation domain to identify and deliver technology evaluations
- Accountable for the overall technical architecture of the infrastructure automation product family ensuring operational excellence, security, performance efficiency, cost optimization, and reliability in all architectures.
- Partners with infrastructure automation product owners to develop the infrastructure automation vision and roadmap.
- Represents infrastructure automation architectures at all architecture and governance boards.
- Works with the broader technology community and the Chief Product Family architect to ensure alignment with the respective technology roadmaps across the automation ecosystem.
- Develop enterprise infrastructure automation coding standards
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related
- 10 years of overall IT experience with financial institutions
- 7 years as an engineer or architect in the infrastructure automation domain
- Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of expert on the Dreyfus architecture scale
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years experience with either AWS or GCP public cloud and Kubernetes
- Experience architecting automations that protect sensitive resources and data, prevents shadow IT, complies with industry regulation and regional regulation, controls sprawl, meets SLA's, maximizes availability and minimizes recovery time, attributes cost accurately, reduces or eliminates wasteful spend, limits blast radius and implements a least privilege approach
- Extensive exposure with one or many of the following Terraform, Cloud Formation, Pulumi, AWS CDK, Kubernetes operators, Crossplane, Hybrid Cloud platforms, Internal Developer platforms, Jenkins
- Extensive experience testing infrastructure code
- Extensive experience with configuration management tooling architectures using Chef, Puppet, Salt, Ansible
- Experience developing infrastructure automation architectures across Multi-Cloud and Mulit-PaaS deployments. The ideal candidate will have experience architecting for technologies such as AWS Systems Manager, CMP's, Redhat Advanced Cluster Manager, Kubernetes Operators, and Service Now
- Expert level experience within multiple IT domains outside of automation. An ideal candidate will have senior level experience at some point in their career in one to many of the following areas: compute, storage, databases, analytics, security/identity/compliance, networking, machine learning, front end or mobile development, end user computing, or application integration for example
- Experience automating data center metal and architecting for MaaS
- Experience architecting end to end infrastructure automation pipelines w/focus on both preventive and retrospective policy enforcement
- Expert level experience developing DevOps and SRE pipelines and runbook automations
- Extensive experience with Python and Typescript in the context of automation
- Understanding of infrastructure, reporting, optimizations as they pertain to automation.
