GIS Developer Responsibilities:
- Perform full application life cycle development and implementation including design, analysis, coding, testing, and documentation
- Communicate design requirements to technical and non-technical personnel
- Participate in all phases of technology or application development including requirements gathering, estimating time and costs for phases or tasks, building, testing and implementation
- Design database schemas
- Conduct GIS analyses and implement GIS solutions using scripting languages
- Make presentations to technical and non-technical management and non-management personnel using a variety of tools
- Provide specific technical insight and recommendations to teammates as needed
- Establish and maintain standards as required and apply industry best practice policies
- Organize and develop application testing procedures to provide for stability and best performance
- Provide project status reports and attend meetings as necessary
Skills, Experience and Requirements:
GIS Developer Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and skill in conducting geospatial analyses
- Ability to research and innovate
- Knowledge of system/software development life cycles
- Knowledge of application and database integration techniques
- Knowledge of relational database design
- In-depth knowledge of GIS application development
- Proficiency with front-end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and various mapping languages
- Proficiency with database and programming languages such as MS SQL Server or PostgreSQL in AWS cloud environment and Python
- Proficiency with ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise
- Familiarity with common and GIS-related information system architecture, best practices, implementation and maintenance
- Degree in Geography, Computer Science or related field
- Outstanding quantitative skill set
- Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
- Analytical mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Good interpersonal skills
