This role is responsible for providing technical expertise in the areas of media playback, routing and displays technology with a strong understanding of video design theory and practice for Disney Cruise Line Entertainment.
Responsibilities:
Subject matter expert for all aspects of video playback and installation, including, but not limited to, cinema projection, theatrical projection, projection mapping systems, media server programing and remote camera control in partnership with DLE designers and vendor support.
Development and execution of video designs for non-show, marine facility infrastructure, as assigned in partnership with DLE.
Guide facility video design progress for non-show, marine facility infrastructure through buy off, procurement, installation, test & adjust, programming, activation, and concluding with As-Built documentation for operating partners at the venue.
Close partnership with Technical Direction and DLE-DSE design disciplines.
Work closely with CAD department to ensure 3D modeling requirements are met and delivered.
Maintain atmosphere video systems and facility infrastructure that address Disney Cruise Line operational needs.
Video/media playback support for Disney Cruise Lines Toronto rehearsal facility as required.
Stay current with video/media playback technology research and development efforts within industry.
Partner and consult with DLE-DSE video designers and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training, and proper documentation of all video services delivered.
Function as a resource to maintain the proper training of shipboard technicians.
Conduct on-going “Entertainment Show Quality” evaluations of existing offerings and provide support to maintain their original show intent.
Maintain up-to-date show documentation.
Assist with continued development and maintenance of the DCL Resource Training Lab.
Partners with shoreside Entertainment Technical Operations to manage video/media sustainment schedules.
Partners with shoreside Technical Production Manager to facilitate shoreside training for new hire technicians.
Partners with shipboard Manager of Entertainment Technical and shipboard entertainment technical teams with regards to current show installations.
Complies with set policies and procedures as well as all maritime and Ship rules, regulations and procedures.
Complies with SIP policies and partners with their DCL and DLE SIP representatives
Partner with shoreside Entertainment Technical Leadership, Disney Cruise Line Safety partners and the Standards and Sustainment team to ensure Safety Management Systems and Operating Guideline documentation is up to date and in accordance with current safety and regulatory practices.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Entertainment Industry working video design in live show/theatrical production and live event production.
Superior understanding of current technology and industry standards for all aspects of video design (theatrical, industrial, concert, touring, etc.), as applied to live show and facility systems.
Advanced experience with most video delivery systems, such as front and rear projection, LED monitors and screens, and high-powered projectors.
Advanced comprehension of the various formats for video content creation and compatible delivery systems in both file delivery and live delivery environment and understanding of SMPTE standards.
Demonstrated understanding of video distribution and routing systems, including advanced network setup, advanced signal flow, file management, and advanced video programming methods.
Ability to work closely with Technical Director(s) and video crew to prioritize, organize, instruct, and problem-solve during installation, content integration and programming.
Proven ability to deliver on a project’s established scope, schedule, and budget.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and able to meet deadlines.
Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and decision-making skills, often under pressure.
Demonstrated leadership, partnering and strategic planning skills.
Highly motivated requiring minimal direction and follow up.
Strong computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD 2D & 3D).
Proven ability to support the creative process by collaborating with other designers, directors, writers, and producers.
Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and frequent extended international travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong understanding of creative process and the development of a creative design.
Superior knowledge of video design theory and practice, especially as it applies to the creative process.
Experience and/or understanding of facility design, engineering, and construction.
Required Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education:
College degree in Technical Theater or equivalent with focus on Video/Broadcast Production.
