Job Summary:
The Disney Digital Media Group within the News Group and Networks organization of Disney Entertainment is responsible for presenting news content to audiences across all platforms, including ABCNews.com, mobile apps, major social media platforms, CTV apps and other distribution endpoints.
The Audience Engagement Editor is charged with curation of ABC News content, including sending mobile push alerts, updating the website homepage and other entry points as well as communicating with external partners to obtain featured placement for both daily and tentpole stories as well as major events.
This person will also work across all content types: text, video, graphics, and livestreams to optimize ABC News’ digital and streaming content across social platforms, as well as provide editorial insights on breaking and trending stories to ensure timely coverage. Additionally, this position will help execute a growth and audience-first engagement strategy for ABC News Digital.
This successful individual should have strong editorial judgment and should be comfortable optimizing news content across platforms. In addition, this person should be comfortable working collaboratively across multiple teams as well as independently as needed. This position lives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where impeccable judgment is necessary. This role is based in NYC and will be on a Wed.-Sun. schedule working overnights on two of those days: Friday & Saturday.
Responsibilities:
Content programming: Utilize editorial judgment and audience insights to determine placement of content across platforms. This person will monitor real-time audience metrics and adjust programming on owned platforms accordingly for maximum impact.
Partner distribution: This role will act as a conduit for ABC News content to external partners to secure premium placement for major news events and other strategic priorities.
Event planning: Collaborate with editorial and programming teams to coordinate plans for major events, live coverage. Deliver plans to internal/external partners to inform future campaigns, programming strategy.
Growth/experimentation: Develop and identify new opportunities and strategies for growth. Create plans to test and track results.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a news/digital new media audience development operation.
Must be able to work a Wed. & Thursday 8:30AM-5:30PM onsite and overnight 8pm- 8am on both Friday & Saturday.
Must live within a commutable distance to ABC News Studio in NYC. Role will require someone onsite Wednesday & Thursday.
Keen understanding of the streaming ecosystem and digital distribution.
Vast knowledge of digital media landscape, including mobile, social and CTV
Ability to think strategically and to interpret audience trends and data
Strong writing and editing skills required.
Adherence to the highest standards of journalism.
Must be available to work on short notice during breaking news situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working at a major news organization.
Proficient using Adobe Premiere/Photoshop
Required Education:
BA/BS from a four-year accredited college or university
The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $64,800 to $89,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
