POSITION:  Executive Director of Special Ed Services

 

EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

 

NUMBER OF DAYS:  226

 

PAY GRADE: Admin/Prof PG-9

 

DIVISION:  Academics

 

DEPARTMENT:  Teaching and Learning

 

REPORTS TO:  Associate Superintendent 

 

SUPERVISES:  Assigned personnel

 

EDUCATION: 

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field

 

EXPERIENCE:  Five years of successful special education teaching experience

 


























Position Function/Purpose

Direct the implementation and maintenance of programming for students ages 3-21 who receive services

through Special Education, Section 504, Dyslexia, Homebound, and/or Compensatory Education Homebound 

Instruction (CEHI) in conformance with District, State, and/or Federal requirements

 


 

Major Responsibilities

  1. Collaborates with campus principals for the purpose of providing services and programs forstudents served in special education, Section 504, dyslexia, homebound, and/or CEHI.
  2. Works collaboratively with other departments to meet district goals and ensure alignment ofprograms and services for students.
  3. Directs the implementation and compliance with State and Federal legislation related to specialeducation, Section 504, Dyslexia, homebound, and/or CEHI.
  4. Supervises and evaluates department personnel for the purpose of ensuring delivery of servicesthat conform to state and federal guidelines.
  5. Directs and monitors federal and local special education department budgets and local dyslexiabudget for the purpose of fiscal efficiency in providing required services to students.
  6. Coordinates special education services with private schools and other agencies.
  7. Directs the Medicaid Administrative Claiming process and direct billing of Medicaid eligiblespecial education services provided by the district.
  8. Facilitates meetings and professional development for the purpose of implementing andmaintaining district special services programming.
  9. Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students who are parentally placedprivate school students or who are transitioning from Early Childhood Intervention (Part C-IDEA), and for students transitioning to post-secondary settings.
  10. Coordinates and ensures compliance of PEIMS data and compliance reporting for all programs in department.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

       Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

 

 


 

Qualification Requirements

        Minimum  Education/Certification:

·         Valid Texas teaching certificate

·         Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field

·         Supervisory Experience

·         Such alternatives to the above qualifications deemed appropriate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

·         Understanding the individual needs of students with disabilities.

·         Ability to communicate with all levels of students requiring special services and their parents.

·         Ability to manage budget and supervise personnel.

·         Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to work well with a diverse population.

·         Ability to ensure the accuracy of data used in federal and state reporting for all departmental

programs.

·         Knowledgeable of state and federal guidelines, including the Individuals with Disabilities

Education (IDEA), the Dyslexia state guidelines, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

 

Minimum Experience:

 

·         Five years of successful special education teaching experience

·         Demonstrated leadership of other teachers

·         Administrative/supervisory experience preferred.

 

Terms of Contract:  According to district approved calendar

 

 


               


 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Emotional -   Maintain emotional control under stress

    Physical – Moderate carrying and lifting.  Standing, sitting, walking, use of fingers, eyes and ears

    Environment – Inside normal office environment
