What are the responsibilities and job description for the ATHLETIC DIRECTOR (#PPS-2023-35) position at District Level?
The Pittsfield Public School District is seeking an Athletic Director to administer the athletic program for two high schools, providing the visionary leadership, strategic planning, event management and policy development for a competitive, interscholastic program; responsible for the development, management, coordination and supervision of the program with a vision that aligns with the district’s mission and priorities
The duties of the Athletic Director include:
-Supervise the administrative and event management responsibilities associated with academic, coaching, leadership, sportsmanship, wellness and community initiatives
-Manage athletic offerings and staff consisting of 15 different sports, fielding a combined 55-plus teams, consisting of 1,000-plus participating student-athletes and 60-plus coaches
-Organize transportation/logistics for 225-plus away events each school year
-Collaborate with opposing schools in scheduling all athletic contests
-Collaborate with the City of Pittsfield Parks Department, School District Administration and Community Partners on scheduling, maintaining and preparing outdoor fields located on and off campus
-Schedule all game officials/referees, game-day operations staff and security personnel
-Maintain professional relationships and daily communications with internal/external stakeholders, administrators, coaches, students and community partners
-Attend relevant meetings and represent the Pittsfield Public Schools, Berkshire County League, Pioneer Valley Conference and MIAA (MA Interscholastic Athletic Association) in varied leadership capacities and local/regional/state level
committee assignments
-Interviews/appoints coaches and monitors mandatory compliance training
-Process contest management payroll for all home games (officials, referees, scorekeepers, ticket takers, medical coverage, etc.)
-Coordinates athletic budgets
-Coordinates public/media relations in cooperation with the district
-Maintains records of the results of all athletic contests
-Maintains records and ensures appropriate training, including first aid, CPR, AED and concussion training for all coaching staff
-Maintains a current physical on file for all student-athletes
-Supervises all ticket sales and revenue-producing events of the program
-Serves as a liaison between coaches and the athletics booster club
-Performs all other duties as required and directed by principals/superintendent
