Job Title: Finance Specialist
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field, or two years of college-level accounting classes preferred;
- Minimum of two years’ experience in accounting, with preference given for experience in school district bookkeeping or accounting;
- Working knowledge of applicable computer systems including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software;
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; and
- Interpersonal skills, in person, in writing, and on the telephone, with diverse populations.
Essential Job Responsibilities
The position may not include all of the duties listed below, nor do all of the duties listed below encompass all tasks within the position.
- Monitor school student activity funds and provide support to all school administrative assistants and bookkeepers;
- Perform monthly school student activity fund reconciliations and report irregularities to supervisor on a regular basis;
- Provide school activity fund training to new staff, coordinate and participate in annual secretarial trainings;
- Perform monthly audits of school student activity funds and assist in the annual audit process. This includes but is not limited to engagement planning, work papers, audit reports, and follow-up work;
- Ensure that activity revenue and expenditures are in compliance with GASB 84;
- Train all school personnel in proper cash control procedure per the New Mexico Manual of Procedures for Public School Accounting and Budget;
- Support the general payable activities of the Finance Department as needed, including receipt and verification of invoices for goods and services against purchase orders;
- Safeguard confidentiality of privileged information;
- Maintain professional relationships and work cooperatively with employees, the community, and other professionals;
- Maintain professional competence through individual and District training, in-service educational activities, and appropriate self-selected professional growth activities;
- Meet deadlines and work on multiple projects;
- Attend staff meetings and conduct, as may be necessary, training with reference to school activity funds;
- Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations;
- Perform other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by the supervisor.
Work Hours
Work hours are established in employment contract. Additional work hours may be assigned by the Executive Director of Finance.
