POSITION SUMMARY:
The Material Handler is responsible for all activities on the dock. These duties include but are not limited to:
- Pulling and preparing daily orders, with a focus on accuracy and speed
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Assisting receiving function as needed
- Working independently as well as in a team environment
- Monitoring critical lot number recording and FIFO pulling practices
- Using dock tools and equipment in a safe and acceptable manner
- Working in a safe manner and reporting accidents immediately
- Keeping work area clean and organized
- Helping to control inventory and facilitating inventory cycle counting
- Communicating maintenance needs to the supervisor
- In the event that hazardous waste is generated, movement to accumulation area will be required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Follow customer orders, pulling correct products, staging and recording items properly in the computer system and/or RF Scanner
- Loading items correctly for shipment
- Assisting receiving function as needed
- Completing projects as assigned
- Must be able to stand all day, lift up to 50-75 pounds frequently, move, bend, and lift
- Must be able to follow detailed directions and use computer system and RF Scanner accurately
- Safely operate forklift and other warehouse equipment
- RCRA Training (to be provided by Birko)
Birko is an ISO 9001 Certified company. That means there are Standard Operating Procedures that are inherent to our success as a company. All positions require the following:
- Maintaining an awareness of and following procedures
- If procedures fail to result in desired outcome notifying supervisor
- Being involved in updates to procedures and suggesting improvements
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years of order pulling experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand on feet all day, moving, lifting, bending and packaging products. Must be able to lift up to 50-75 pounds frequently and throughout the day
- Organized and detail oriented
- Familiarity with UPS World Ship a plus
- Reliable, must be at work and on time consistently (hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm)
- Basic mathematical skills
- Forklift certification and/or training
- Able to work in a team environment
- Speak, read, and write in English
- Working knowledge of computers and manufacturing software
