About the Opportunity
DMI, LLC is seeking a SQL Server DBA to support a Federal Government customer in the DC metro area. This SQL Server DBA will provide Support for an enterprise web-based system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Install, configure, and manage SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, high availability, and data integrity.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, query optimization, and index management.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies to minimize data loss and ensure business continuity. Perform regular backups and test restoration procedures.
- Security: Implement and maintain database security measures, including user access control, role-based security, data encryption, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Capacity Planning: Analyze database growth trends and plan for scalability by recommending hardware and software upgrades as necessary.
- Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve database-related issues, such as system outages, data corruption, and performance problems.
- Patch and Upgrade Management: Apply patches, updates, and version upgrades to SQL Server instances while minimizing downtime and ensuring compatibility.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to support application development, integration, and deployment activities.
- Disaster Recovery Planning: Contribute to the development and testing of disaster recovery plans to ensure data availability in case of unforeseen events.
- Automation: Develop scripts and automation routines to streamline database administration tasks and improve efficiency.
- Training and Knowledge Sharing: Provide guidance and training to junior DBAs and team members, sharing best practices and promoting a culture of continuous learning.
- Assist in data warehouse design and implementation, including ETL processes and reporting requirements.
- Implement and maintain database security measures, including user access controls, authentication mechanisms, and data encryption.
- Utilize Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative development, ensuring proper code management and team coordination.
Qualifications
Education and Years of Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum 5 years of technical experience in SQL Server similar Application support or Development environment
Required and Desired Skills/Certifications:
- Proven experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator, including hands-on experience with SQL Server 20xx and newer versions.
- Strong knowledge of database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery procedures, and database security practices.
- Proficiency in writing SQL queries, stored procedures, and database scripts.
- Familiarity with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, such as SQL Server AlwaysOn, mirroring, clustering, and log shipping.
- Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate are desirable but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of cloud-based database solutions and technologies, such as Azure SQL Database, is a plus.
