Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant (MA) to join our team. The MA will play a crucial role in assisting healthcare professionals in diagnosing and treating patients with allergies and immunological disorders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care, medical procedures, and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our practice.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist physicians and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients with allergies and immunological conditions.
2. Perform basic medical procedures such as taking vital signs, administering allergy tests, and assisting with allergy shots.
3. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records, including allergy histories, immunization records, and medication lists.
4. Educate patients on allergy prevention, treatment options, and medication administration.
5. Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
6. Sterilize medical instruments and ensure proper infection control protocols are followed.
7. Schedule patient appointments, answer phone calls, and assist with patient intake and registration.
8. Coordinate with laboratory and pharmacy staff to ensure timely processing of diagnostic tests and prescriptions.
9. Follow HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
10. Assist with other administrative tasks and special projects as needed.
11. Administer allergy shots and other biologics.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant program is preferred.
2. Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is strongly preferred.
3. Previous experience working in medical practice, preferably in allergy and immunology or a related field.
4. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
5. Proficiency in performing basic medical procedures such as taking vital signs, administering injections, and conducting allergy tests.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
7. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
8. Proficiency in computer skills and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
9. Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive patient information.
10. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, procedures, and protocols in allergy and immunology practice.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bilingual proficiency in English and another language commonly spoken in the local community.
2. Experience with allergy testing and immunotherapy administration.
3. Familiarity with insurance verification and billing processes in a medical setting.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a medical office setting, working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The work may involve exposure to allergens and infectious diseases. The Medical Assistant may be required to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects occasionally.
