As an Energy Market Analyst, you will contribute to a wide range of projects spanning from small to complex related to the integration of onshore and offshore renewable energy, non-wire alternatives, and energy storage systems to the electrical grid. In addition to providing market analytical expertise, a successful candidate must demonstrate excellent modeling skills. This position will ideally be based out of our Dallas, TX office; however, remote locations may also be considered.
What You'll Do
- Wholesale market analysis involving energy markets across the US (basis, DA/RT, forward heat rates and spark spreads, ancillary services, natural gas, and correlations) assist with the development of market valuation models
- Translate wholesale market changes into strategic opportunities
- Generate reports and market insight for clients
- Evaluate the value and impact of various energy assets such as storage, wind, solar, and distributed generation
- Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes
- Contribute to the team's research and innovation activities supporting the development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to enhance efficiency and/or capability improvements
- Adhere to the department's project quality and timeliness procedures
- Assist in preparing responses to Statement of Qualifications (SOQs), and Request for Proposals (RFPs) for new tenders/bids/opportunities
Position Qualifications
What is required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or in a related field of study
- Minimum two (2) years of direct work experience in energy production cost modeling or economic dispatch modeling using PLEXOS, PROMOD, UPLAN, or Encompass
- In-depth financial or economic knowledge/experience and understanding of the mechanics of the energy market (wholesale energy markets), ability to quantify trends impacting the industry, and provide information that can aid commercial decisions
- Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets and their planning practices
- Applicants must possess advanced computer skills, including strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, SQL experience, Modeling, and Coding experience. Vital to have a working knowledge of energy modeling software
- Familiarization with regional power and gas market construct for managing risk, including familiarity with Locational Marginal Prices (LMP), basis and congestion risk, renewable curtailment, etc.
- Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a high-paced team environment
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 5% of the time
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
What is preferred
- Graduate-level degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems
- Knowledge of Eastern and/or Western grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studies
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages including TARA, PSS/E, and/or Powerworld
- Working knowledge of automation scripts such as Python for the development of automation modules
