Oversees the daily operation of the Last Mile Coding program classroom.
Helps facilitate technology problem resolution through interfacing with Last Mile technical support and the inmates in the program.
Recruit inmates for participation in the program based on eligibility criteria of the Last Mile Coding Program.
Keeps a positive learning environment in the classroom for all program participants.
Utilize best practices, current instructional methods, to help support inmates involved in this distance learning program.
Complete inmate attendance daily.
Update inmate case plan as required by SOP.
Complete EGT Performance ratings in IMS no later than the last day of the awarding month.
Complete required documentation to process boosts as determined by SOP.
Complete required 40 hours of training within the fiscal year.
Maintain a record of professional development and DOC trainings attended.
Update SSTA promptly to ensure that payroll is processed accurately.
Illustrate an understanding of current educational practices.
Illustrate a comprehensive and current knowledge of DOC policies and procedures.
Complete duties as assigned that support the Division’s mission.
Engage in Division priorities to enhance the progression of strategic goals.
Collaborate with other professionals, both inside and outside of the Division of Inmate Training and Education, to contribute to the goals of the Division.
Interact with staff in a professional manner, utilizing and maintaining appropriate boundaries at all times.
Interact and communicate with inmates in professional manner while utilizing appropriate boundaries.
Report any and all security related concerns to your supervisor promptly.
Manage assigned classroom in a manner consistent with institutional rules and regulations.
Maintain a current and up-to-date inventory of all technological tools and equipment.
Maintain a safe, secure, and clean working area.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods in education. Must possess attitude, temperament, and ability to work in a correctional setting. Should have at least three years working in an educational or adult educational setting. Knowledge of institution’s schedules and procedures a plus. Ability to work with an incarcerated adult population in a high/medium security setting. Knowledge of principles and practices in an adult correctional institution. Knowledge of principles and practices of daily security procedures. A current Massachusetts Teacher Certification is helpful, but not required.
This is a Civil Service position. Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in teaching, educational administration, educational counseling or educational guidance, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in education or special education, educational administration or educational counseling may be substituted for the required experience.*
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the equivalent from another state may be required.
