About the role:

Dodge Construction Network is searching for an Economist to join our industry-leading forecasting team. This is a newly created position that is ideal for a candidate that is looking to be a highly effective contributing member of a tightly knit team. The Economist analyzes and forecasts construction activity and disseminates this information (via written reports, e-newsletters, presentations, etc.) to help Dodge clients make important business decisions that will impact their bottom lines.

*Dodge’s forecast team is based in the greater Boston, MA area; however, remote or hybrid work will be considered.*

What you’ll do:

  • Analyze, forecast, and write about construction market trends for Dodge’s quarterly forecast products.
  • Run econometric models to forecast construction starts and contribute to model development.
  • Specialize in selected construction sectors. Conduct research, create forecasts, and write about these sectors with emphasis on informed conclusions about what is driving the market and where the market is headed.
  • Utilize large projects in the Dodge planning pipeline to enhance forecast model results.
  • Interact with clients, Dodge sales representatives, and the media to discuss Dodge construction data, forecasts, as well as their use and interpretation.
  • Provide construction outlook presentations to clients and industry associations.
  • Track historical data and forecast performance over time to enhance forecast accuracy and data quality.
  • Assist with new product initiatives such as advisory/consulting services and advanced data analytics.

What you’ll bring:

  • Self-motivation and a willingness to get your hands dirty in learning and using a complex set of data and tools.
  • Experience in econometric modeling and forecasting using E-Views (or similar econometric forecasting software), Excel, Access and other statistical software.
  • Solid analytical skills to identify and explain underlying trends in construction markets.
  • Effective communication and writing skills to translate complex economic relationships into readable prose.
  • Forward thinking and able to assist in the development of new forecast products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with both internal and external clients.
  • Hands-on experience with desktop software programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Tableau, as well as an ability to learn proprietary database manipulation programs.
  • Relevant experience of at least 1 to 3 years as an economist.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics is required and a Masters’ degree is a definite plus.
