Retail Manager

Job Overview: The Retail Manager assists at our Conservation Attractions Dogwood Canyon and Ozarks Heritage Preserve. This manager oversees all aspects of retail at the foundation, buying, receiving, merchandising, and driving revenue to meet company goals. This includes vendor relations, building sales plans, managing inventory, and more.
Primary Functions
- Builds an open top buy plan each year in conjunction with the VP and within the budgeted sales plan
- Oversees the receiving process and personnel associated with that area
- Develops the merchandising strategy for Dogwood Canyon and the Welcome Center
- Accountable for sales, gross margin, turnover, fill rate, brand management, retail in stocks, and inventory management
- Maintains professional vendor relationships to promote a selection and quantity of products that will maximize quality and profitability.
- Responsible of integrity of all system data including accurate SKU, vendor, and cost information
- Reduce shrinkage and maintain appropriate budgeted inventory levels
- Negotiates with vendors for the best pricing and favorable terms
- Attends predetermined markets and shows to select appropriate merchandise and increase vendor contacts
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Retail Administration preferred but not required
- 4 years' experience merchandising for like retail outlets
- 4 years managing teams with both top and bottom-line accountability
Skills and Knowledge
- Writing - Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
- Basic Computer Skills - Using basic computer hardware and software (e.g., personal computers, word processing software, Internet browsers, etc.)
- Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography, and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Analytical/Critical Thinking - The ability to gather and organize information using a logical and systematic process; recognize patterns and relationships in complex data; examine data to identify implications, problems and draw appropriate conclusions; generate alternative solutions to problems; evaluate strengths, weaknesses and consequences of alternative solutions and approaches to solving problems
- Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
- Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Originality - The ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about products, services or situations, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem
