SUMMARY: 

Collaborates with campus personnel in interpreting and enforcing compulsory attendance laws and resolving student truancy, excessive absences and tardiness issues. Works closely with campus to develop processes/activities to increase enrollment. Assist students and parents in analyzing, understanding, and seeking solutions to the problems of school attendance.  Promote positive public relations between the school district and community. Distribute pertinent information about the district's attendance policies and regulations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION:

High school diploma

Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)

Valid Texas Drivers License

  • Ability to coordinate campus functions to promote attendance and enrollment

  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management

  1. Assess the need of students with regard to school attendance by keeping accurate and complete records of home visits and reports of conferences with parents and school personnel.
  2. Ensure the regulation and verification of attendance by identifying and assisting in the screening process of ineligible and new-to district students.
  3. Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, and staff to promote understanding acceptance of regular school attendance.
  4. Conduct home visit, parent/guardian conferences on student truancy and attendance issues
  5. Serve in all functions/activities dealing with attendance, enrollment and withdrawals. (Truancy court, Leaver Recovery efforts, parent & student conferences, campus attendance committees, etc.)
  6. Collaborates with school personnel to plan, implement events/activities to improve attendance and enrollment.

 

Public and Community Relations

  1. Serve as liaison between the school system and the community.
  2. Serve as district/campus representative of community committees as required.
  3. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

 

Policy, Reports, and Law

  1. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the attendance area.
  2. Compile, maintain, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  3. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, students, and parents, and the general community.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand, talk or hear and travel from one building to another or to other sites.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.  Light to moderate lifting is required.

 

Frequent driving to other sites is required.  This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints, interacting with the public and staff, and enduring irregular or extended work hours

 

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but varies depending upon the site and the activity being conducted.  The employee regularly works indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme temperatures.
