Double Good creates joy through our product based fundraising platform. Our solution helps organizations raise funds fast. We deliver made-to-order delicious popcorn direct to supporters through an ecommerce platform. We’re 220 employees strong and growing. 

In this newly created role, Double Good is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee the the group responsible for execution of capital projects within the manufacturing and shipping facilities.   

As part of our team, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for both strategic and day to day facets related to engineering and overall upkeep of Double Good facilities. The Director of Engineering will be tasked with the development of proper project management and engineering standards including, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical and civil specifications as they relate to project development and overall project management. The Director of Engineering will also have the ability to set forth the process and program that will be utilized for capital expenditures and associated workflows. The role will be responsible for the execution of capital projects to be completed safely, on time and on budget. Lastly, the role will be responsible for both maintenance and sanitation aspects as they relate to the day to day activity within Double Good manufacturing and shipping.  

This role will be largely onsite between our Burr Ridge and Elmhurst facilities. 

About the role:

  • The Director of Engineering is supported by the SVP of Operations and consults with a cross functional leadership team in order to create a long term capital investment strategy which fosters safety, quality and growth within the organization.
  • Operationally supports the Maintenance and Sanitation departments overseeing day to day operation in both manufacturing and shipping. 
  • Responsible for coordinating and managing day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple large-scale capital projects 
  • Responsible for project development, design, application, management, and implementation of capital projects
  • Work with R&D, Food Safety, Environment, Marketing, and Manufacturing departments to help bring product to market or deliver successful manufacturing systems against Return on Investment (ROI) considerations
  • Must make decisions concerning plant layouts, equipment selections, project schedules, and cost requirements 
  • Manage project cost/budgets; regularly reviews and updates project and labor costs, processes change orders in a timely fashion, makes suggestions on improving overall productivity and cost savings
  • Responsible for managing outside engineering and construction management resources 
  • Establish, maintain, and coordinate policies, standards, specifications, and practices that support and enhance the company’s objectives 
  • Manage engineering team in all aspects of projects, including safety, quality, organization, planning, scheduling, subcontractor scheduling, and day-to-day issues
  • Oversees progress and timeliness of projects to make sure they are completed on time, on budget, and in a quality manner
  • Regularly reports on overall status of current and upcoming capital projects.
  • Reviews project reports to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget.

  • Extensive technical knowledge of project engineering and product development.
  • Previous experience in managing both engineering as well as operational teams
  • 10 years in food/bev manufacturing-high preference
  • Excellent financial skills and ability to analyze financial data as it relates to capital investments.
  • Proven track record of strategy development
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Proficient in navigating autocad or other design tools

Nice to have and/or you’ll learn:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration optional
  • At least ten years of related experience required.
