ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, coordinates and directs quality control laboratory activities and technicians to ensure consistency with established QC laboratory standards and operational requirements.
- Ensures proper documentation of all QC processes.
- Develops and analyzes methods and procedures to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of products.
- Formulates and maintains quality control laboratory objectives and coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with manufacturing managers or technical staff to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
- Directs hourly technicians engaged in inspection and testing activities in laboratory to ensure continuous control over customer specifications, materials, facilities, and products.
- Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities to remain current on product testing and inspections.
- Participates/Leads in investigations with customer service, operations, shipping, etc. regarding customer complaints regarding quality.
- Manages investigations and troubleshoots existing methods to assess impact of out of specification materials or finished product.
- An understanding of regulatory requirements for chemical analysis, method validation requirements, the ability to troubleshoot existing methods, and an understanding of the product development process.
- Perform statistical analysis, prepare reports, and support research chemists as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS Degree in Chemistry with 5-7 years hands on experience in quality control laboratory environment, in an industrial position preferably in the chemical or petro/chemicals industry.
- Must have demonstrated skills with laboratory techniques and associated testing equipment.
- Experience working in an industrial setting preferred.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.
- Ability to work in a union environment preferred.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments, meets strict project deadlines within established project budgets.
- Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages, and customer value.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience writing detailed technical reports.
- Self-confident, ability to accept and respond to challenges in a positive manner.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner and proven experience writing detailed technical reports.
- Computer skills are a must with knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Power Point, knowledge how to use SDS software system MSDgen.
- Work extended hours, weekends as needed, especially when problems occur or when deadlines must be met.
- Minimal travel will be required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While generally working in a laboratory setting, the person performing the duties of this job will have potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy environment, and dusty environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move or lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform physical activities that require moving your whole body with considerable use of arms and legs, such as reaching, bending, twisting, standing, climbing stairs, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.
