THE POSITION
The main responsibility of the Director of Nursing in Memory Care and Enhanced Assisted Living is to plan, organize, develop, and oversee the operations of the Memory Care and Enhanced Assisted Living neighborhoods. The DON must ensure that all operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations that govern Dow Rummel Village, and that the highest level of quality care is always maintained and as directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director.
THE HOURS: Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm with an every 5th weekend MOD rotation.
THE QUALIFICATIONS
- CLINICAL EXPERTISE: must have a strong clinical background in senior living care, with a deep knowledge of nursing practice and procedures as this position oversees the quality of patient care and provides guidance to nursing staff.
- EXCELLENT LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS: ability and experience in managing large teams of nursing staff. This includes the ability to motivate and inspire staff, manage budgets and resources, and make tough decisions when necessary.
- COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Effective communication is essential as this position must be able to communicate with staff, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. This includes the ability to provide clear instructions, listen to feedback, and handle difficult conversations.
- PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS: must be able to identify and solve complex problems related to patient care, staff management, and resource allocation. This requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to think creatively.
- INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: it is vital that this DON have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build strong relationships with patients, families, and staff. This includes empathy, compassion, and the ability to provide emotional support to patients and their families.
- ADAPTABILITY: The healthcare industry is constantly changing, and it is critical that the DON be able to adapt to new challenges and trends. This includes the ability to stay up to date with new technologies, regulations, and best practices in nursing.
- EXPERIENCE: must meet certain requirements, including having a minimum of 4 years of nursing and leadership experience in senior living, regulatory knowledge to direct healthcare needs for Assisted Living and Memory Care residents, and the ability to effectively manage a team of healthcare professionals.
This position requires the candidate to have a current, unincumbered South Dakota Registered Nurse License.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise nursing staff and oversee nursing operations.
- Establish goals for the nursing department.
- Develop and enforce compliant healthcare policies.
- Monitor nursing services to ensure compliance with established safety regulations for equipment and supplies.
- Provide the Administrator with information on the nursing needs of residents and the department's ability to meet those needs.
- Review nurses' notes to ensure they accurately reflect the nursing care provided and the resident's response to care.
- Monitor the call response system to ensure timely resident assistance.
- Develop and participate in planning and scheduling in-service training classes to educate the Nursing Department.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an effective orientation program for new associates.
- Prepare and plan the Nursing Department's budget and submit it to the Administrator for review and recommendations.
