Job Posting for Executive Director at Down Syndrome Association Of West Michigan

The Executive director is responsible for the overall administration and management Association, including service programs, fundraising, and business operations for both the Association and Foundation. Areas of responsibility include planning and evaluation, policy development and administration, personnel and fiscal management, and public relations. This is a full-time position, hired by and directly accountable to the board through its elected board chair.

  • Clarifies and communicates the organization’s mission, vision, goals and strategies
  • Plans, develops and establishes policies and objectives of the Association and Foundation in accordance with Board directives, articles of incorporation and by-laws.
  • Directs day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Directs all organizational communications, scheduling, task tracking, reporting, programs and services.
  • Coordinates board calendar and committee meetings as appropriate.
  • Acts as liaison and consultant to the board and its committees.
  • Hands-on managing a staff of 4 employees and interns.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Leadership

o Acts with complete integrity and fairness at all times

o Promotes a positive public image of people with Down syndrome

o Works closely with the board to develop partnerships in the community

Strategic Planning

  • Identifies emerging issues that affect both the association and Foundation both external and internal, bringing those issues to the board’s attention.
  • Works closely with the board in planning short and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Identifies resources and develop implementation plans to achieve board goals.
  • Monitors progress and issue timely reports to board.

Board Support

  • Provides administrative, consultative, and strategic support to the board of directors and the subcommittees which will facilitate efficient implementation of the strategic plan.

  • Provides oversight and ensures regular scheduling of board and subcommittee meetings.
  • Ensures the sending of notices and minutes.
  • Attend board meeting, documenting minutes and maintaining master file.
  • Ensures the maintenance of attendance records of the members.
  • Assist Governance Committee in identifying potential members to the board as well as needed qualifications of potential members.
  • Assist in the continuous planning activities of the board supporting the strategic plan and direction.
  • Assist committee chairs to recruit volunteer members.
  • Provide a monthly report of ED and organizational activities
  • Staff Management
  • Plan, develop and monitor Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Interview, hire, train, direct, and align staff.
  • Perform annual and periodic performance reviews for staff.
  • Set staff compensation within context of board policy.

Events

  • Supervise and help implement special events and in an efficient, cost-effective manner that will support the budget and goals of the association and foundation

Public Awareness and Education

  • Implement programs designed to improve the public’s awareness (members, stakeholders and the community) of the association and foundation presence, mission and activities.
  • Promote public awareness to broaden awareness and foster positive attitudes regarding people with Down syndrome.

Engage in networking with the national organizations, other DS groups and the general community

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
