Downtown is seeking a Global Tax Director to join our Group Finance team. This role will focus on strategic tax and operational planning, US tax withholding and reporting, Intellectual Property, compliance, and reporting for Downtown’s international group of operating companies. This role will report into the Chief Financial Officer of Downtown and will also work closely with the General Counsel, the Director of Accounting and Reporting, as well as senior management members at each portfolio business. The ideal candidate preferably possesses a Master’s Degree in Tax Accounting of either a US University or international equivalent accreditation (Tax Accounting qualification ACA / ACCA or legal equivalent), has 8- 10 years experience mixed between public accounting and private industry, and thrives in a fast-paced and agile organization. This position will be based in New York, NY or remotely within a commutable distance.

What you'll do: 

  • Coordination of the overall tax planning of the Downtown group with their operations in multiple countries around the globe
  • Closely interact with the Tax, Finance and Legal teams in the operating companies to assure tax compliance and proper organization of the processes, which would lead to effective reporting and compliance
  • Have group-wide responsibility and create visibility on all International Tax aspects including:
    • Corporate Income Tax in an international ownership structure 
    • Withholding Tax
    • Transfer pricing
    • Licensing and Contracting
  • Report to and have close interaction with the board and/or shareholder representatives on tax items which have a wider impact
  • Develop and manage a tax reporting system, reflecting periodical compliance of tax matters and creating an overview of existing and potential tax exposures for the group
  • Be the first point of contact, oversee and coordinate tax advisors and accountants in relation to tax matters
  • Explain and discuss complicated tax matters and their implications for local operating company management and allow them to understand and apply the guidelines and instructions in their daily organization and operations
  • Functionally manage a team of specific employees having tax responsibility and the relevant responsible staff members in the Finance team
  • Act as a resource for the Heads of Finance for each operating company to advise on any technical tax matters that arise, and align policies across the organization
  • Perform ad hoc tax analyses when requested by either senior management or the Director of Financial Reporting of Downtown
  • Interact with local tax authorities, oversee, and coordinate interaction with those, whether on routine contacts, audit, inspection or, if case be, litigation

You are / have: 

  • Master’s degree or CPA certification in Tax Accounting or related area of study, either from US University or foreign equivalent as well as Tax Accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA or legal equivalent), preferred
  • 8-10 years’ experience, with ideally 3-4 years in public accounting with a blend of US and international tax consulting experience, as well as private industry experience in a holding/group tax management function
  • Experience with global service business operating with multiple contracts with multiple global business lines and brands with $200 million to $1.5 billion in revenue is highly desirable
  • Experience with a blend of International and US tax expertise
  • Strong knowledge of US Tax Law and international aspects of such
  • Ability to align tax matters both from a legal perspective as well as finance perspective
  • Ability to communicate complicated tax matters in a clear and professional manner
  • Create a road map to elevate the tax organization and assure the company’s operations can support and organize the tax compliance regulations dealing with potential exposure

Downtown provides base salary ranges for all positions located in the United States at the time of posting. The hiring range for this position is $185,000-$225,000 annually. As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon various factors including, but not limited to, work experience, geographic location and relevant skills.
