Operations Manager
This position is responsible for overseeing the Operations personnel and manufacturing process of biomass.

What does this mean?
You will be responsible for the overall execution of Safety, Culture, Leadership and Plant Operations and consistently lives our Mission, Vison and Values. You will safely deliver and communicate all targets, budgets, and objectives to the plant team.
You will champion the Drax Safety Culture by leading, creating, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, following standards and procedures; and complying with legislation and regulations.
You will create and maintain strong relationships with the Plant Management, Operations and Corporate colleagues. This means you have excellent communication and can establish and communicate clean expectations.
You will set performance standards, communicate this to the team and hold them accountable through regular meetings, performance reviews and feedback opportunities. Sometimes you will coach on the fly! You will proactively create strong employee relations. You will be a champion for the recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new employees.
You will execute the annual budget, work to minimize costs and maintain financial standards. You will work with our Fibre Team to ensure raw fibre inventory is adequate to meet plant requirements for volume and cost. You will meet plant targets by working with the corporate support groups.
Operations Responsibilities and Tasks
Manage the operations and manufacturing process of biomass to achieve and exceed facility and company goals and objectives- Exhibit high expectations, rapid feedback, and daily goals for operations to drive excellence
- Come to meetings with situational awareness and prepared plans to drive safety, quality, and productivity to highest possible level
- Create quarterly operational and production goals for direct reports that support continuous improvement of operational team and achievement of facility goals
- Support supervisors to manage time and attendance for plant to proactively fill gaps, build bench strength, and provide full coverage for daily shifts
- Provide leadership for Area Managers for planned maintenance, problem solving, and debottlenecking of processes to optimize daily on quality production
- Hold Area Managers accountable to provide active leadership in Safety, Quality, Cost Control, Productivity, and Environmental compliance
- Exhibit active leadership across plant. Encourage, coach, and intercede as necessary to achieve plant goals
- Insure 8D’s are completed for safety and production incidents to support continuous improvement
Housekeeping Responsibilities and Tasks
Implement housekeeping standards to minimize hazards and to eliminate OSHA recordables and lost time injuries- Walk with Safety manager, Plant manager, and Area Managers at least once per day to assess plant housekeeping and compliance
- Give frequent and timely feedback to crews, supervisors, and individuals to improve plant housekeeping and dust score
- Insure temps and outside services are properly utilized to keep plant in best possible condition at least possible costs
Personnel Responsibilities and Tasks
Responsible for overall facility personnel including hiring, training, coaching, setting expectations, insuring compliance to rules, procedures, and regulations, discipline, performance, and terminations if necessary- Lead the hiring process for all operations employees, and staff as appropriate
- Insure temps and outside services are properly utilized to keep plant in best possible condition at least possible costs
- Develop training manuals, standard operating procedures and Lock-Out Tag-Out documents
- Schedule, train and maintain training records for all operations employees
- Insure that health and safety programs and plans are developed and implemented in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirement
- Insure that the biomass is produced in compliance with the manufacturing and quality specifications
- Communicate and support the philosophy of the Continuous Improvement Process
- Continuously encourage, seek, identify, and implement the means and methods to improve plant productivity and efficiency without compromising product quality, safety or environmental
- Ensure that operations employees are informed and updated on key business and organizational issues
