Project Controls Specialist

Are you a Project Control Specialist, with previous experience in leading the controls activities of large complex projects up to $250MM in value?

The Project Controls Specialist leads the project controls activities including developing, maintaining and/or tracking the project schedule and progress updates, supporting procurement activities and the development/management of control budget for assigned Capital Projects. They also support the project engineers/managers with procurement activities in the Drax accounting/procurement systems. This position reports to the Project Manager with indirect oversight and guidance from Senior Project Controls Manager.


Dimensions:

  • Oversight and reporting against budgets and schedules but no direct budget responsibility
  • No direct/indirect reports


Key Accountabilities:

  • Translation of Funding Estimate into a Control Budget utilizing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and internal coding systems
  • Develops and/or tracks project schedule and progress updates to support effective final cost forecasting.
  • Maintains project spend tracking, forecast to complete, and project cost curves in conjunction with Project Engineer/Manager; record spend against budget to monitor forecast and spend, and highlight concerns around progress in critical areas.
  • Responsible for maintaining a common project control methodology and use of proportionally appropriate project control tools as documented in the Project Controls Plan and determined by Drax PMO (Project Management Office/Engineering Services Group)
  • Integrates commercial agreements and procurement information into the project budget and schedule using company procurement software platform.
  • Supports effective change management processes and the impacts/mitigations to scope, schedule and budget
  • Supports effective Risk Management processes and the impacts/mitigations to scope, schedule and budget
  • Preparation of reports and dashboards related to projects assigned.
  • Working closely with workstream lead and project managers to provide support to enable effective project management.
  • Supports procurement/bidding processes by evaluating budget and schedule deliverables against project requirements.
  • Supports the development of internal historical database of project delivery to create future project execution improvements via timely and effective project closeouts
  • Provides feedback to PMO Projects Controls regarding improvement opportunities in software platforms, working practices and procedures and project controls methodologies


Knowledge, Skills, and Experience required:

  • Experienced in project controls methodology and systems including project scheduling and earned value, budget creation, Management of Change and Risk Management
  • Skilled in Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project, with the ability to build, track and forecast complex project schedules
  • Preferred digital literacy in common Microsoft platforms including (PowerBI, Excel, Word, Teams, Sharepoint and OneNote).
  • Self-motivated and confident. Able to build positive relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to produce accurate work to tight timescales.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize and communicate complex information to stakeholders.
  • A desire to identify and implement opportunities for improvements is essential.
  • Innovative and creative thinker who is naturally curious with the ability to create and develop innovative ideas and concepts which start from a blank sheet of paper.
  • Ideally degree educated in a technical subject such as engineering or construction management or equivalent relevant work experience in lieu of technical degree.
  • Project management or construction management experience is a plus.
  • Familiar with engineering/construction/manufacturing processes and the ability to identify realistic opportunities and options.
  • Encourage teamwork and open collaboration across organization boundaries within the H2 NA areas.


Measures of Success:

  • Project plans reported to all relevant parties meeting any deadlines set by the Business.
  • Project Managers are aware of impacts to project timescales, critical paths, and budget risks.
  • Create and maintain project documentation for all strategic capital projects.
  • Seamless communications between all internal parties within the Drax Group.
  • Willingness to travel or relocate for the project- project compensation pay.
