General Helper

DS Smith is a leading international supplier of paper-based packaging solutions for consumer products, e-commerce, promotion, transit, and industrial applications. We are looking for individuals who already have prior experience in the corrugate box manufacturing industry or a desire to learn.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for all set up and operation of machines in designated department. Operators may work with computer-controlled equipment or more mechanically based machines. Pay is based on corrugate manufacturing experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Must have strong knowledge of machines in a manufacturing setting and Machine Operator experience
• Must be able to work as a part of a team, and independently
• Must meet the ergonomic and physical requirements, as well as the physical base profile (below) for this position
• Must meet the company quality and performance standards for the job as specified
• Must agree to wear the proper assigned PPE and shoes approved for this job as specified in Contact and Safety Requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Set up and operation of various machines
• Run material through machine according to company specifications
• Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations
• Ensure correct materials are used to meet customer specifications
• Ensure all inventory entries are complete and accurate
• Inspect and maintain quality of product
• Meet all quality and efficiency standards
• Meet all company safety policies and report any concerns related to required maintenance of machines
• Test operation of machines periodically
• Special projects as business dictate
• Duties may be expanded upon and additional duties may be assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English as it relates to this position and to the safety regulations
• Ability to follow detailed instructions including reading a tape measure, blueprints, production schematics
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to use, or learn to use, the equipment and tools used to perform this job
• Ability to perform all the job functions safely

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods (standing, lifting, walking, climbing, pushing, twisting, stopping, and pulling)
• Frequently required to talk or hear
• The employee is required to reach with hands and arms
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Noise level in the work environment can be at times loud
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts
• Frequently exposed to (wet, humid, other) conditions
• Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, vibrations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.50 - $16.65 per hour
