Dudek is looking for a dynamic technical editor to join our growing Publications team.
Our ideal candidate is a publications leader with exceptional editorial skills and sound judgment to manage all aspects of complex technical report production under tight deadlines. Candidate must be able to use editorial expertise and ingenuity to solve editorial and coordination issues effectively, interacting with all levels of staff and occasionally with clients.
This full-time position may be based at one of the following offices: Portland, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, San Juan Capistrano, Encinitas, or San Diego, and may have hybrid or remote options available.

*Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides technical editing (including copyediting), writing/rewriting, and document management support for technical and marketing documents.
- Reviews documents to resolve errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, logic, and references; ensures clarity of figures and tables; and checks for readable text, clear sentences, and consistent style.
- Begins to learn and apply standard Dudek editorial style (Dudek Style Guide) to documents; builds familiarity with environmental sciences documents, terminology, and guidelines.
- Ensures conformance with existing project-specific style guidelines when available and/or creates project-specific style sheets.
- Makes editorial recommendations as necessary to authors and reviewers.
- Investigates and provides editorial solutions for document content and management issues.
- Coordinates with internal staff to manage workflow and document editing and formatting cycles.
- Manages time effectively to meet assignment deadlines.
- Learns department processes and works closely with publications team members (i.e., editors, publications specialists, and production staff) to ensure that documents are completed according to established requirements and schedule.
- Assists other editors with large documentation projects.
- Collaborates with other editors to complete editorial review and publication of public review notices and filings.
- Performs quality checks on production work as requested.
- Reports workload status and notifies supervisor when adjustments to workload are needed.
- Learns from and applies feedback generated by editorial peer review/quality check of completed work.
- Participates in editorial team development and updates of editorial guidelines, best practices, and other resources.
- BA degree in English or writing-intensive discipline. MA degree is a plus.
- 2 years’ experience in an applicable professional field.
- Problem-solving capabilities. Able to manage project-specific editorial and document production schedules to meet established deadlines. Able to troubleshoot and provide effective editorial solutions based on desired technical staff results.
- Excellent communication skills. Able to describe problems and solutions to team members. Able to provide accurate work forecasts and status.
- Teamwork skills. Capable of constructively teaching and learning from teammates. Maintains a positive attitude in the face of changing demands and deadlines. Able to coordinate with team members to achieve a common goal.
- Independence. Able to self-motivate and work independently to achieve a goal with limited guidance.
- Adaptability. Able to rapidly self-teach new skills and software applications. Able to be productive under changing demands and deadlines and prioritize work as appropriate when faced with multiple projects.
- Excellent general software skills. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent editorial skills. Must have thorough understanding of professional standards and resources and demonstrate good and quick editorial judgment with sensitivity to client demands while maintaining established editorial standards.
- Experience working with document production teams is desired, and familiarity with terminology of environmental sciences is a plus.

Working Conditions:
- This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
- This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.
- This job requires working on a computer, sitting or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
- This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually as well as speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc. Speaking, hearing and listening are required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
