Position Summary
Responsible for a variety of activities associated with the installation and maintenance of distribution and transmission pipelines.
Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of activities associated with pipeline installation and maintenance including:
- Layout of line; clean surface of metal pipes
- Locate lines (as needed)
- Cut, thread, and re-wrap pipes
- Fuse plastic pipe
- Performs site excavation (including pavement & concrete)
- Set-up for job (ensure tools and equipment available)
- Restore landscaping
- Performs and assists in related activities:
- Assists in making taps (steel and plastic)
- Traffic control
- “Squeeze-off” steel and plastic
- Install leak clamps
- Install cathodic protection devices
- Assists with purges
- Assist in relocating service lines
- Retire services (disconnect and cap)
- Install and repair excess flow valves
- Change stop-cocks
- Performs above functions utilizing a variety of tools and equipment:
- Hand tools (brushes, grinders, etc.)
- Shovels
- Rakes
- Jack hammer
- “Squeeze” tool
- Heating iron
- Performs other duties as assigned and required.
Basic/Required Qualifications:
- Must possess a high school diploma or a GED
- Mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of hand tools
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Safety awareness; driver’s license
- Prefer prior related experience
Physical Requirements:
- Must work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
- Flexible work schedule
- Lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Frequent bending, stooping, standing, digging, climbing
- Work on uneven terrain, many times with heavy vegetation
- Manual dexterity (hand/eye coordination)
- Keen eyesight
- Good hearing
- Good sense of smell
- Comes in frequent contact with insects and animals
- Ability to use SCBA when responding to gas leaks
