The Medical Assistant, Certified functions as an integral member oftheinterdisciplinary healthcare team inproviding direct patient care.

TheMedical Assistant, Certified perfor msroutine administrative and patientcare supportive duties in a Health S ystem medical practice that assistmedical and / or nursing staff in the examination and treatment ofpatients and ensure the clinic / office runs smoothly.

Work Performed

Clinical responsibilities : The C MAtakes medical histories and records vital signs, explainstreatment pro cedures to patients, and prepares patients for examinationsand procedure s.

Patient care support responsibilities may include assisting the medica land nursing staff during examination and procedures, collecting andprep aring laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory test in theclini c / office, taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures / staples,changings terile and non-sterile dressings, promoting patient / familyunderstandingo fthe educationalcontent and his / her involvement in theplan of care,and d ocumenting in the patient record.

Other clinical support responsibilities include disposing ofcontaminated supplies, instrument processing,high le veldisinfectionand sterilization of medical instruments, telephoning pre scriptions to apharmacy, preparing and administering medicationsas direc ted by aphysician, and authorizing drug refills as directed.

  • Performs ot herclinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.Admin istrative responsibilities : The CMA greets patients, answers telephones,s chedules appointments toinclude arrive appointments in MaestroCare, chec kout patients, andreferral scheduling;
  • arranges for hospital admissions and laboratoryservices, updates and files patient medical records, fills out insuranceforms, handles billing, bookkeeping to include receivingco pays andcollections on account balances;

correspondence, andorderingclin icaland clerical supplies and forms. Performs other administrative duties such as Joint Commission and falls and / or participate in clinic committees duties as directed.

May be requested to be a liaison for clinic activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Good customer service ski lls.Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and writteni nstructions generally acquired through a high school education andmedica lassistant programming.

Heavy lifting and the ability totransportstretche r and wheelchairpatients may be required.Working knowledge of sterile te chniques and special procedures that areapplicable towork performed.

Work ing knowledge of procedures and techniques involvedin administeringrouti ne and special treatments to patients.Working knowledge of sanitation, p ersonal hygiene and basic health andsafety precautions applicable for wo rk in a clinic setting.

Workingknowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.Age specific competencies.Daily clinic preparatio n process;

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Level I Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level II Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.

Experience

Level I No experience required. Level II 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.

Level III 2 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting. Level IV 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.

Note : 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. General Ladder Statement : In addition to the education and experience noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA / RMA) Ladder Program document for Levels II, III, and IV.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Level I Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required. Level II Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.

BLS required. Level III Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required. Level IV Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.
