Duke Primary Care is a broad network of community-based clinics that offer family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric, and urgent care services. Founded in 1994 with 10 practices, we have since expanded to 400 providers in nearly 50 locations, Duke Primary Care is the largest primary care network in the greater Triangle. Our network saw more than 750,000 patient encounters in fiscal year 2021. Our clinics provide personalized care for adults and children, from sick visits to preventive care, health screenings to immunizations, and annual exams to chronic disease management. Select primary care clinics also provide behavioral health, diabetes education, pharmacy, and other population health services. Duke Primary Care clinics are accredited and designated a Primary Care Medical Home by The Joint Commission. Our Duke Urgent Care centers offer evaluation and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries 12 hours a day, seven days a week when a patient's primary care provider is not available. Services also include certain physical exams and vaccinations. A pediatric specialist is available at select locations. Patients can walk in to one of our nine urgent care centers located throughout the greater Triangle or can schedule a virtual visit to receive care from the comfort of home.

 

Under the leadership of the Chief Medical Officer and System Vice President and in collaboration with DUHS Executives, the Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the clinical, cultural, operational, and financial performance of Duke Primary Care. This individual must promote and champion superior operating performance while fostering and implementing a culture of excellence in team-based delivery of clinical services. The Chief Operating Officer directs a team of senior leaders responsible for specific functional areas in the organization, and serves as liaison between its entity and other DUHS entities and community organizations, representing its interests and providing collaboration in DUHS strategic initiatives. The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the overall operational and financial management of the network, including ensuring the appropriate leadership infrastructure to support safe and effective delivery of care and a positive work environment.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

  • Business and Operational Excellence – Drives results through strong fiscal, operational, and strategic management of DPC. Ensures that the organization meets the highest standards of quality and care, and is operated in a manner that is ethical, efficient, and financially sound. Aligns the strategy of the network with Duke Health strategies and promotes financial sustainability and success.
  • Clinical Excellence – leads the network’s efforts to design and deliver remarkable, high-value, personalized care, clinical innovation, and a culture of kindness. Promotes and supports efforts to eliminate harm to patients, their loved ones and each other. Holds the team and themselves accountable for quality and equitable clinical outcomes.
  • Performance Improvement - Provides leadership in performance improvement activities of the network, including developing and monitoring performance indicators in all aspects of network management. Utilize Lean methodologies and performance improvement tools to identify areas for enhancement, optimize workflow and improve operational efficiency.
  • Provider Recruitment - guide provider recruitment activities for the network. Partners with other administrative leaders to ensure physician employment agreements, provider credentialing process and operational plans meet the business needs of the network

Advanced Degree Required

Postgraduate degree in business administration, health care administration, public administration, public health, or related applicable areas.
