Summary of Job:
The Environmental Services Technician works as part of the site Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) organization to maintain compliance to federal, state, and corporate hazardous waste regulations and provide chemical management services for the site. The Environmental Services Technician operates under direct supervision of the EHS Site Leader and interfaces with the Operations and Research and Development (R&D) organizations as internal customers. The Environmental Services Technician will provide hands on support to manage hazardous waste collection and storage requirements for the site. This position will also be responsible for chemical management services for the R&D organization which involves inventory management of chemical orders and delivery of laboratory supplies and chemicals. This role has the expectation to promote safety awareness and engage with site personnel to foster an injury free workplace.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provides operational and hands on leadership for site Hazardous Waste program. This involves daily waste collection and inspection of site waste storage locations.
Manages the R&D chemical delivery process and maintains the inventory of laboratory supplies n R&D stockrooms and site laboratories.
Coordinates with R&D procurement to reconcile all orders with goods that have been received.
Develop and maintain R&D chemical receiving process to drive accurate inventory management and chemical storage safety.
Primary interface with third party waste disposal contractors to ensure compliance to DOT, RCRA, and corporate Hazardous Waste Handling / Transportation requirements.
Supports elements of site Hazardous Communication program to maintain compliance and ensures site personnel have clear understanding of chemical hazards and where to find hazardous communication information (29CFR1910.1200)
Supports site Emergency Response Team (ERT) in the event of chemical spills and/or HazMat events.
Actively participates in site programs to maintain Responsible Care 14001 certification requirements
Collects and maintains waste manifests to demonstrate compliance to Federal, State of Massachusetts and local regulatory requirements
Audits and inspects hazardous waste satellite and accumulation areas for compliance. Drives corrective actions to closure.
Acts as training resource for various site EHS programs for hazardous waste generation and compliance.
Identify and develop improvements in site hazardous waste programs to reduce waste generation and cost.
May execute other duties in support of safety, health and environmental programs
Job Qualifications:
The following are required:
High School Diploma/GED
At least 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing or similar environment
Must be proficient with basic math
Willing and able to perform the following physical demands: frequently required to talk or hear, occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Solid communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office (included Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
The following are preferred:
Previous work experience as a Hazardous Materials Technician or other EH&S related role
Able to work independently or in a group environment
Able to champion a Safety First! culture
